Operetta of 1928
CCTHE BELLS OF BEAUIOLAISQ' the operetta chosen for presentation the year of 1928,
was a huge success. Eightyfseven people in the music departments took part under the
direction of Mr. Glover and Miss Dickinson, who had charge of the singingg Mrs. Williams, who
was dramatic directorg and Miss Segerman, dancing instructor.
The story was quite simple yet complicated enough through entanglements in love affairs
to be interesting from start to finish.
The Glee Clubs cooperated with the directors to put on a good show, and the money
earned was used to buy uniforms for the band, of which Creston is justly proud.

Girls' Glee Club
"Music washes away from the soul the dust of the day."
THIS statement contained much truth for the Glee Club girls who spent the iirst semester
' learning to appreciate and to sing different types of 'music. The aim of the club, whose
classes were conducted rather informally, was to inspire the love of good music, to teach the
proper singing of it, and to develop a singing voice.
The second half of the year was set aside for preparing and presenting, with the Boys'
Glee Club, the operetta. "The Bells of Beaujolaisf' The girls cooperated with Miss Dickinson
to make this, Creston's second Senior High School operetta, a success.
Much credit for the success of the club is due Miss Dickinson who came to Creston
from Ottawa Hills in September, 1927. It was largely through her efforts that the white flannel
dress with the school colors in flowers was established as the regulation club uniform.
The ol'licers for the first semester were:

Coach--Mx. Haitema
Teams-Amrmativez Mary Pease, Evelyn Van Bree, Paul Clarke. Negative: Mary
Pease, Paul Clarke. Alternates: Isabel Buchan, Sam Bousky.
Question: Resolved, That the Direct Primary method of nominating candidates for public
office in the United States should be abolished.
Creston's second attempt at organizing a debating team proved a success for the coach as
well as the school. Although not quite good enough to be able to enter the state contest,
Creston made a good showing in the district elimination by winning three out of four debates.
With no experience the Creston trio met the lonia team at Ionia on the negative side of
the question and succeeded in receiving a two to one decision. Even their car demonstrated
its jubilant nature on the way home.
At the second debate Creston's negative team had their hopes blighted when Allegan
defeated Creston 3 to 0 in the latter's auditorium.
The third debate, however, turned the tables and the aflirmative trio defeated Holland
with a unanimous decision. - '
At the last debate Creston was again victorious, defeating Muskegon 2fl.
