of all the people in the world reach out and effect all the other people? If that is true, then the doings of even a small class in a small school have a greater influence than we would imagine possible. Sometimes I wonder who started this idea of commence- ment speeches. I have heard of schools who simply hire a speaker for class day, and let it go at that. There were times when I was working on this speech that I wished our faculty and school board did that way, but I guess they really do know what is best. While none of us may be president of the United States or Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, it is entirely possible that we might be called upon to make a speech some time, and if we hadn't had any practice at all, we would be in a bad way. You folks who are listening may wonder what you get out of it, and perhaps you shouldn't be blamed for that, but I really believe if you look at the program as a whole, you will see that even the listeners may be benefitted. Just stop to think of our whole school system. Children from all sorts of homes come to our school where, no matter how their homes are conducted and what each of them thinks, they are trained tozbllow a system which applies to the entire group, not just to individuals. Even though some rebel, the system goes on, andat last classes are gaduated, each member having completed a prescribed course of study leading to a diploma which is recognizedly higher institutions of learning. Even programs like this are part of the system, and contribute in many ways to the advancement to the group and individuals. We honestly believe that if you will think seriously of what we have said and of what others will say you will find something helpful. while commencement is a time of joy, still there is something sober, almost sad, about it. Never again will we be high school pupils. while we may meet the members of the faculty, the school board, and even our classmates from time to time, it will not be the same, and yet we will be the same people we were here in school. If, through these years, we have shirked, if we have had a tendency to get by with as little effort as possible, we will continue doing that way. It will effectcnr dealings with others, no matter what line of work we pursue. If we have failed to do our best, it is forever too late to change as far as our high school record is concerned, but it is still possible to improve. You may not remember much of what I have said, but I do hope you will remember that. Perhaps there have been times when you did not do your best, but from now on you can make up your minds toimprove, and can work with that thought ever before you. If, however, we have obeyed the rules, co-operated with-
