SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Eight of the 42 graduating seniors have gone through grade school, junior high, and senior high together. They are: Tom Anderson, Donna Bartling, Lanny Bartling, Ardith Clough, Ed Olsen, Susan Radosti, Carl Sanders, and Teresa Smith. During grade school and junior high, Kenneth Meikle, Jim Brandt, Ed Smith, Bill Berglund, Neil Kuhlman, Denzil Theis, Sharon West, Scott Adams, Gloria Bartak, Sherry Boone, Gaylen Kumm, Janet Montgomery, Phyllis Myers, Jerry Porter, Fred Ruzicka, Linda Sorensen, and Susie Webster joined us for those carefree years. In 7th grade our junior high float, consisting of a rocking horse with the theme of Rock to Victory ' won 1st prize in the Homecoming parade. We took 3rd prize in the 8th grade in float competition. Our float was a large envelope with the theme Send 'Em Home In Defeat . . Our first year of high school was fun-filled confusion with 14 new students: They were: Melvin Blair, Linda Boggs, Betty Buhrman, Charles Carlson, Roger Davison, Don Emery, Brenda Faith, Don Faith, James Geiger, Ward Greenwall, Sue Hartshorn, Judy Key, Linda Vietor, and Dan Walker. The sophomores started the year for us with a hayride. Sharon West was our Homecoming Queen candidate. We built a windmill for our float theme, Power Is Victory , but failed to earn a prize although it was the best float. At the beginning of our sophomore year, Don Emory, Brenda Faith, James Geiger, Ward Greenwall, Judy Key, and Denzil Theis failed to return, but Audrey Prochaska, Dewayne Spies, and Melvin Woods were added to the class enrollment. We again selected Sharon West as our queen candidate. We were quite proud of our 1st prize battleship, our Homecoming float called Float Thru To Victory”. We threw a hayride for the freshmen. Our junior year held a new experience for us as we moved into the new high school. Six new students joined us in breaking it in, which we did quite well. They were: Herb Blair, Don Carlson, Paul Crosley, Linda Fredericks, Sandra Haack, and Ebby Ziegler. Charles Carlson, Dewayne Spies, and Linda Vietor left us. Betty Buhrman was chosen as queen can- didate. Tradition was kept by again taking 1st prize in float competition. Our beautiful watermelon won with the theme Chew 'Em Up And Spit 'Em Out”. Our Junior Class Play, Man Overboard, was the first to be presented on the new stage. Our audience was blinded by our dazzling new class rings. We invited the seniors to our Oriental Gardens for the Jr.-Sr. Banquet and Prom. Of course we all enjoyed Slouch Day . Linda Fredericks, Linda Sorensen, and Susan Webster did not return for our final year, but we received five new students. They were: Connie Edwards, Jean Kind, Larry Pease, Susan Wagner, and Kent Welch. Our Homecoming Queen candidate. Sue Hartshorn, was 1st attendant, and Sharon West was crowned as Homecoming Queen. Our ballot box, Vote For Victory , was awarded 3rd prize. The event of the year was April 2, Sneak Day, when we loaded a bus for Omaha. We spent time at Boys’ Town, the Crossroads, and the Pacific Railroad Museum, and viewed My Fair Ladvatthe Cooper Theater. The year was brightened, or frightened, by the Senior Class Play, The Scarlet Ghost. We enjoyed a visit with Arabian Knights” at the Jr.-Sr. Banquet and Prom. Honors Night, May 14, Baccalaureate, May 16, and Commencement, May 18, brought an end to our years at C.H.S. We wish the future graduates the best of success at our alma mater. 18
