Coach Tom Rooney 'm .ga 2 1 . ' -si J Q? Captain Larry Murphy B Joyful indeed are the prospects for Cranwell this spring with the fast-approaching baseball season. Few, if any, teams in the school's history ever boasted of the fine talent that is at hand for the i959 diamond campaign. Coach Tom Rooney bases his hopes for a successful outing on the fact that eight Varsity members are returning from last year's nine, bolstered by the good JV talent moving up. With the spring thaw in the Berkshire Hills, the Varsity moves out of the cage in the gym to the luscious green pastures across Route 20. The pitching staff, with starters Garry Payne and Mike Waples, will be out there, limiting the extra base hits. Our Captain, Larry Murphy, will be behind the plate for his third successive season. Murph will star as our spectacular Yogi Berra and provide the long ball. Jim O'Brien is working out at second, joining Larry Casey at short in a good double-play combination. On the hot corner will be Gary Scarafoni, with a good throwing arm and additional power at bat. Roaming the outfield will be such stalwarts as Guy Harley, fast and cau- tious, Dave Bailey-Gates, a long ball slugger, Charlie Mar- tin, Bill Bagley, Eric Farrell, all promising newcomers with good experience. Ready to see extensive service are Vin Gentile, Jim Noon, Denny McGivney, Doug Murphy, John Haggerty, Bill Hough and Brian Payne. As this yearbook goes to press, there is no shroud of pessimism covering the face of Coach Rooney. Cranwell looks forward to a fast, youthful club and an outstanding diamond season.
