1939 tmroplzecy of cgebruary Glass o 1939 IN the year 1960, the class of February 1939, of Cranston High School, pooled its funds, purchased Wake Island from the United States government, and set up the state of Utopia. Captain Ernie Swanson transported the pioneers to their destination on his diesel yacht, Wimpy XVII. Before long they discovered the necessity for government, and a most democratic form was adopted. By popular vote Harry Gray was elected Chairman of the Board of Governors. The following were chosen to serve upon the board: Eleanor Weisner, Robert Barningham, Fred Howard, and George Coffey. Priscilla Cranston is the Speaker of the House. The Utopia Utopian, edited by that eminent globe-trotter, Kenneth Hazard, features Miss Cranston's column, My Day. The Utopian has on its staff Jimmie MacDonald, world famous cartoonist and Avis Post, editor of the Womans Page. Utopia University soon gained recognition as one of the great centers of learning of the world. The school is efficiently managed by President Louis Fazzano, B. A., M. A., Ph. D., LL. D., Hon. Pres. of the Royal Academy of Utopian Arts. Lectures and exams are extrafcurricular. The only courses offered are those in domestic and biological sciences under the professorship of George Roberts and Earl G. Page, Jr. Sports are limited to football with Head Coach, AllfUtopian Ray Larson, Wally Davis and Bob Heaton serve as backfield coach and line coach respectively. At the other end of the island is Miss Kenyon's Finishing School for smart young women. Miss Nathalie Caldwell is head of the Dead Language Department. Mary Adams, head of the English Department, specializes in the poetry of the poet-laureate, Lloyd Sheeran. Ruth Geockel, the swimming coach, stresses bathing beauty contests more than swimming meets. Mildred Spelmen, Physical Ed. Supervisor, offers a most invigorating course in Tiddlywinks. The two schools are linked together by a Date Bureau with Hap Palmer representing U. U., and on the sly, Betsy Herrick from K. F. S. Neither police nor prisons are necessary in Utopia, and since the Fountain of Youth was discovered on the island, the hospitals have closed, thus putting jane Graves, Supervisor of Nurses, out of a job. Incidentally, Miss Graves is now doing missionary work on an unfutopian island nearby. The Utopian airport, ably managed by Olando Macari, keeps the populace in communication with the outside world since transfpacific clippers land there daily. The WrongfWayfCorrigan Restaurant situated at the airport and run by Angela DeSantis and Rose Paola keeps the clipper's passengers wellffed. One of the best customers is Kenneth Robinson, Good-Will Ambassador to whom it may concern. Almost any time one may tune in to WfUfT'O and hear the vigorous announce' ment of Donald Ford. Other high spots on the program of the station are One Family's Man featuring Virginia Smith, Helen O'Loughlin, Henry Morin and Mary Malley, the song birds of the airwaves. Only yesterday, Waldo Watkins, sports commentator, gave an eventfbyfevent account of the Knights of Utopia Track Meet. The food supply is taken care of by Joseph Iaciofano and his able distributors, Sahag Kalousdian and John Lane. Clifford Johnson has set up the elaborate Utopian Dairy. A unique feature is the milk maids, Edith Toumaine, Dorothy Kay, Ann Messerlian, Agnes Ledverissis. One wishing to spend a quiet evening, may go to the Library, where Barbara Harrington and Gladys Liljendahl are librarians. Or one may drop in at Howard Russell's Club Utoperico, where he may hear the bouncing rhythms of joseph Enos' GRADUATING O CLASS O 0F sans.: -..gf 22
