Clan Prophecy The day was cold and drear and the north-side surroundings held the air of mysterious happenings. As I approached the big rambling house a voice warned me to go back, but I swallowed my nervousness and entered the room where the mystic was to unroll the future for the graduating Class of '51, Heavy curtains hung from the wallsg the odor of incense filled the air. The room was lighted with candles and everywhere was the scent of the East. The mystic motioned me to sit on one side of a small table and he sat directly in front of me. He wore a turban and a long flowing robe of many colors. His eyes were dark and piercing as he gazed into the crystalg his voice was low as he began to speak to me: None can change that which is seen in the crystal ball. Listen carefully while I tell you what the future holds for you and your classmates. The first to appear in the crystal ball are 'Meggie' Seaborn and Gladys Eaker, who live in Indianapolis now and are two of the world's famed women racers. Nancy Lane and Rachel Hope are now co-owners of the thriving Hadacol firm. Barbara Brown, with her red hair, has gone rocketing to fame as Rita Hayworth's double. Also, 'Becky' Queen is co-starring with Gene Kelly in a musical. John Robert Brandon has achieved the office of mayor of McAdenvilleg when John retires, Cyrus Lowe will succeed him. Next is a cozy room in which Margaret Rabb Rector and Frances Wallace Mobley are discussing the future of their two children. 'Donnie' Stowe's ardent love for chemistry has acquired him a BS degree. Keith Eller has gone far in the field of boxing. Next month, he will defend his title as heavy-weight champion of the world. The crystal ball then switched to Chapel Hill where Charlie Auton and Danny Long are the star football players. Helen Elrod now has a record shop at Times Square, selling all the latest hillbilly hits . Then the scene changed to the Charlotte Observer office' where Willard Moody is editor of the paper and Bobbie White is editor of the society page. Robert Pow is now pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charlotte. 'Hallie' Teague has tied the wedding knot and now he and his wife have a bouncing baby boy . Then a very attentive audience appeared in the crystal and in the spotlight were Daisy Foreman and Evelyn Bereece demonstrating their tumbling ability- Louise Ma.rtin has written many entertaining books for children, and Helen Shuford, famed artist, supplies the illustrations . As I sat on the edge of my chair--very much in suspense--the scene changed to two little country churches with pastors standing out front. The two pastors were none other than Winford Floyd and Fred Overcash. The next appearance brought a smile to my lips when I learned that Gordon Wagner was playing Red Skelton and Dick Finley had taken Jimmy Durante's part in Hollvwood. Bellevue Hospital appeared in the crystal and I learned that Betty Broome is now director of nurses there. Also, Lex Adams has a radio shop just around the corner. The crystal became clear as the mystic finished his sentence and the faraway look in his eyes faded. How many of these predictions for the Class of '51 will be true? Only the future can tell.
