Yes, twelve long years of hard work and loads of fun, twelve years of growth and development in the art of right living. All our ups and downs, our pleasant and unpleasant experiences, and our many memories go to make up those twelve years. It was in the Fall of 1947 that a group of nervous, bewildered boys and girls entered high school. After the bottom fell out of our anticipations for an easy life, we adjusted ourselves to the change in subjects, classes, teachers, and to the new world of experience--HIGH SCHOOL. We chose Joe Donald Stowe as our leader for this year. Under the gulchnce of Mr. Hammack and Miss Rhyne, our home room teachers, we learned how to understand our fellow classmates and how to make new friends. As we progressed to the Sophomore year we had a new home room teacher, Miss Katherine Gaston. This year, though, we felt more at home in high school. Although we worked very hard at our studies, we had plenty of fun and enjoyed this year tremendously. As we entered the Junior year, we found many new difficulties, as well as the old ones, facing us. Amidst all our studies we succeeded in presenting a gloric us Halloween Carnival and Junior-Senior Banquet. With the aid of Miss Dellinger, we made our Junior year successful--a year that we can look back on proudly. Finally in September of 1950, we had reached the pinnacle of our High School career. It was hard to believe that we--once mere freshmen--were now proud, haughty Seniors. We chose Louise Martin as our President for this year. With some difficulty we cleared our brains and began another year's work. CThis year, too, we felt the loss of Mr. Hammack, our faithful teacher and friend. J As all Seniors do, we faced the problem of publishing an annual. We chose Willard Moody as editor and a faithful group to assist him. After a long period of antici- ption and excitement, the dayfinally came when we were to get our class rings. tYes, you could see the joy beaming in our faces that day. J We felt that we were FULL-FLEDGED Seniors now that we had our rings. They still remind us of our many V pleasant experiences. With a great deal of pleasure we look back on these things. Their memories will linger on. Let us nowlook forwardg for, although our school days are finished and our preparation is over, life is just beginning. Those fundamentals of right living taught us by the perseverance and patience of our teachers will remain with us beyond graduation day. As we, the Seniors of 1951, finish our short stay here, we take with us many happy memories. Howard Teague Page Fifteen Clan Prophecy The day was cold and drear and the north-side surroundings held the air of mysterious happenings. As I approached the big rambling house a voice warned me to go back, but I swallowed my nervousness and entered the room where the mystic was to unroll the future for the graduating Class of '51, Heavy curtains hung from the wallsg the odor of incense filled the air. The room was lighted with candles and everywhere was the scent of the East. The mystic motioned me to sit on one side of a small table and he sat directly in front of me. He wore a turban and a long flowing robe of many colors. His eyes were dark and piercing as he gazed into the crystalg his voice was low as he began to speak to me: None can change that which is seen in the crystal ball. Listen carefully while I tell you what the future holds for you and your classmates. The first to appear in the crystal ball are 'Meggie' Seaborn and Gladys Eaker, who live in Indianapolis now and are two of the world's famed women racers. Nancy Lane and Rachel Hope are now co-owners of the thriving Hadacol firm. Barbara Brown, with her red hair, has gone rocketing to fame as Rita Hayworth's double. Also, 'Becky' Queen is co-starring with Gene Kelly in a musical. John Robert Brandon has achieved the office of mayor of McAdenvilleg when John retires, Cyrus Lowe will succeed him. Next is a cozy room in which Margaret Rabb Rector and Frances Wallace Mobley are discussing the future of their two children. 'Donnie' Stowe's ardent love for chemistry has acquired him a BS degree. Keith Eller has gone far in the field of boxing. Next month, he will defend his title as heavy-weight champion of the world. The crystal ball then switched to Chapel Hill where Charlie Auton and Danny Long are the star football players. Helen Elrod now has a record shop at Times Square, selling all the latest hillbilly hits . Then the scene changed to the Charlotte Observer office' where Willard Moody is editor of the paper and Bobbie White is editor of the society page. Robert Pow is now pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charlotte. 'Hallie' Teague has tied the wedding knot and now he and his wife have a bouncing baby boy . Then a very attentive audience appeared in the crystal and in the spotlight were Daisy Foreman and Evelyn Bereece demonstrating their tumbling ability- Louise Ma.rtin has written many entertaining books for children, and Helen Shuford, famed artist, supplies the illustrations . As I sat on the edge of my chair--very much in suspense--the scene changed to two little country churches with pastors standing out front. The two pastors were none other than Winford Floyd and Fred Overcash. The next appearance brought a smile to my lips when I learned that Gordon Wagner was playing Red Skelton and Dick Finley had taken Jimmy Durante's part in Hollvwood. Bellevue Hospital appeared in the crystal and I learned that Betty Broome is now director of nurses there. Also, Lex Adams has a radio shop just around the corner. The crystal became clear as the mystic finished his sentence and the faraway look in his eyes faded. How many of these predictions for the Class of '51 will be true? Only the future can tell.
