' If-fs! 1 J y1fY wf 13' af' ,1 ff . file' eff' COVINA HIGH SCHOOL The Tr1p to Boulder Dam HI: tr1p made by the combmed physics classes to Boulder Dam on March 9 and 10 wnll always remam one of the outstandmg events of the school year of 1933 1934 Mr Ross suggestron that an overmght tr1p be made to see the project was eagerly accepted and a large ITIHJOIIIY of the students IH the physxcs classes accompan1ed by a few of the faculty left one Frldav afternoon to see Boulder Dam The tr1p was full of 1nterest1ng events but the rmpressxon made on our m1nds by the great dam over shadowed ev ery thlng else Betty van Cunkel proved to be a rather dangerous passenger accordmg to Mr Ross In her great joy caused by leavlng her home state for the first t1me Glnkel nearly upset the automoblle as the state lme was crossed After every one had regamed h1s seat II was dlscovered that the handle of the door had been pulled off 1n the confuslon Many students went mto another state for the first time but no other drastlc results were reported The last stretch of the road before the auto camp was reached almost caused us to glve up hope of arrrvlng at our destlnatlon Nevertheless we arr1ved dusty and trred shortly after nme Although the truck seemed to be far behlnd the ladtes seemed not to be the waltmg kmd and went to bed as soon as possxble The group of cold wmd beaten boys arr1ved sometlme after mld mght All they were capable of saymg was I want mv bed Very soon all were asleep- and all too soon vv ere up and ready to contmue The twenty seven boys who rode on the truck were repald for therr dxs comfort by some extra experxences They were somewhat crowded and also exposed to the heat and cold Nevertheless they found a number of ways of amuslng themselves Tell1ng jokes teasxng good natured Harvey Bolmg and star ga71ng were among thexr d1vers1ons The truck was not able to proceed very speedlly and several tlmes some of the boys got off and ran awhlle A thev slowly progressed to the top of a long hlll just beyond Baker a great deal of excxtement was created by the report that they were nearly out of gas A gasol1ne statlon was reached m t1me and a catastrophe was avolded Probably the most memorable of these boys experrences was the removal of the rather occurred Many beautrful and mterestlng slghts were seen by the group The mult1 colored desert especlally at sunset and sunrlse was gorgeous A number of curtous rel1cs were mspected ln towns at whxch we stopped Especlally memor able was the attract1veness of Boulder Cxty The green lawns and spotlessly whlte stucco bl1lld1IlgS made If seem truly l1ke an oasls Its outstandmg feature for many was the huge dlnmg hall where we were served dellclous food Most assuredlv we came home wlth our ears eyes and m1nds full of unforgettable memor1es 4 I 632' T I 3 l I I ' s ' 1 ' 1 L I Y! 3 ! , .
