The annual initiation of the Freshies planned by the Sophs was held early in the fall on the ball field. The barn dance was held on March 25. A record crowd drank cider from the cow , danced by lantern light, sat on bales of straw, chose the longest beard and departed at mid- night broke from buying rattled cake, but happy and duly farmerized . The advisors, Mrs. Liles, Mrs. Emerson, and Mr. Parker, deserve much credit for the Sophs' successful year. Under the able supervision of Mr. Milton, Mr. Newman, and Miss Davis, a very co-operative group was organized. The officers include: Henry Lee Go, president, Helen Castanho, sec- retary, Reginald Jang, treasurer, Mary Ellen Leary, representative, and Bob Fukushima, pub- licity director. After a fairly rugged initiation the class was officially a member of the stuzlent body. March 31, 1949, the Courtland C.S.F. took a field trip. Early in the morning the fifty-one students clambered aboard a Courtland High bus and headed directly for Berkeley. When they arrived, a group of college students met them and showed them around the university grounds. As the campus is very large and spread out, it took the whole day to tour it. Late in the afternoon they again boarded the bus and returned home. FRESHMEN OFFICERS Top row: Bob Fukushima, Henry Lee Go, Lawrence Chee. Bottom row: Reggie Jang, Mary Ellen Leary, Helen Castanho.
