Badminton THE COSTA MESA HIGH SCHOOL BADMirHTOM TEAM The badminton team, seeded fourth in C.I.F., is expected to domi- nate the Sea View League. For the past two years, they have been co- Sea View League champions with Estancia High School. The team ' s main goal for the 1987-88 season is to beat Estancia and claim sole pos- session of the championship title. As senior Nam Lam said. Hopeful- ly we will beat Estancia so we can be league champs instead of co-cham- pions. The team consists of girls and boys singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. They post strong players in every position. With tough pre-season matches, the team should be ready to excel during league competition. The Varsity team should be led by senior Nam Lam, Souk Somsavath, Jin Kim, Tong Pravongvieng, and Thu Tin. Standouts for the girls include Vanessa Cao, Pam Cottom, Eun Ih Kim, Eun Joo Lee, and Lisa Wynn, who are all expected to attend the California Interscholastic Feder- ation (C.I.F.) tournament. Lorri slams the ball into the net. Mariam smiles for the camera. 86Sports

Spiritleaders This year ' s Pep Squad tried something new Spir- itieading. This is a combination of Song and Cheer. All three squads showed their talent at camp where they won many trophies and a spirit award. Their immense talent was shown at rallies and half-time routines. They helped support the teams, not only with cheers but also with goody bags. The girls who made up the frosh squad showed great talent. It consisted of six girls who were bursting with freshman pride. Junior Varsity proved how talented they were by supporting their team. Only two members had been on the squad before, but the other four added much to their teammates. The enthusiastic girls of Varsity shined in their perfor- mance on and off the field. The girls showed enthusiasm in their gymnastics and stunts. The squad had much experience between them: four are returning from Varsi- iy and three came from last year ' s frosh cheer and one from JV. As for the other two, they were new to CMHS as spiritleaders. All squads have displayed their spirit and pride. Their talents are overwhelming, and we will be looking for- ward to see them improve more over the years! The Varsity Spirit Team Ayanna Kari Erin Koreen Deana Staci
