The girls Softball team is full of hopes for the 1987-88 season. They are off to a great start, with two victories over Newport Harbor 2711 and Corona del Mar 19-10. All team members are certain that they will do well in league, especial- ly since they have talented players and solid pitching, with sophomore Tammy Moore and senior Shannen Leahy. Their main goal for the season is to place third and participate in the California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) tournament, which no Mesa team has done in the past eleven years. To reach this goal, the girls practice daily from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., practicing hitting and working on their tough defense. The Mustang girls feel that they are a strong enough team to make playoffs, as does their head coach Jim Weeks, saying, It ' s the most talented softball team in five years. They are solid at every position-including pitching. I have realistic ex- pectations that they will make the playoffs. The team should be led by seniors Tricia Harris, Diana Day, Vanessa Henderson, and juniors Kim Good and Shannon Austin. Shannen. is something wrong? 70 Diana ' s look of determination
