Boys Cross Country Did you see an ugly girl, Pete? BOYS CROSS COGNTRY The 1987-88 Boys Varsity Cross Country team had a season full of hardships. The team was comprised of four seniors. 1 junior. I sophomore, and I freshman. Unfortunately, they had no summer program to back them and first-year coaches. Mark Howard and Henry Medina, were employed late in the summer. Despite their late start and lack of depth, the boys faired well. Even though the mustangs record was not outstanding, they had some achievements. At several invitationals. the team showed a high level of potential and placed highly. At the Orange County Championships, Scott Palmer and Ruben Lozano showed endurance and determina- tion to win. This will placed them a well deserved fourth place in league. The mustangs were led by their Team Captain Ruben Lozano. who was also awarded Most Valuable Player, for his hard work and dedication, while Most Improved went to Tong Pravongvieng. The team was rounded out by Scott Palmer. Peter Ma, Tom Pipes, Harry Noonene, and Nam Lam, who all displayed much talent during league competition. The boys Junior Varsity Cross Country was comprised of many young runners. For most of the team, this was their first year as serious competitors. Although their record was not outstanding (1 win-5 losses), they worked very hard and had many close meets. The team participated in several invitationals and gained much needed experience. The experience will help them tremendously as Varsity runners. The team consisted of Young Chang. Frank Keller. Nam Lam, Ken Hill, and Shane Mclaughlin. Even though they were small in size, this year ' s Freshman Sophomore Team did well during league competition. They displayed great talent and the will to never give up. The boys had morning and afternoon workouts, usually running ten miles a day. Throughout all the tough practices and mental exhaustion, the mustang boys fought as a team. With the talent and determination on this team, the Cross Country program should become much stronger in future years. The team roster: Don Hein, Justin Yockel. Chris Chimenti, Simon Han. and Sean Stout. It ' s only TeWinkle hill Palmer. Ruben ' s victory sign. 48 Sports
