In league, they placed second with a record of 4-1 and finished 12-6 overall. For the league championship, they played an intense game against Woodbridge, but unfortunately lost by one goal. Under the coaching of Tom Kennedy, the players gained experience and learned valuable fun- damentals of the game. The Mustangs dis- played much intensity and desire to win. With the talent and determination of this team, the future looks bright for the Costa Mesa High Waterpolo program. The follow- ing outstanding pl ayers were recognized: Corey Delahunt received Most Valuable, Most Improved went to Bao Nguyen, Roman Himmer was Most inspirational, and Team Captain was awarded to Ervin Garcia. Girls Varsity Volleyball VARSITY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL The Varsity Girls Volleyball Team entered the 1987-88 season with opti- mism and enthusiasm. With seven re- turning Varsity letterman. they an- ticipated much success. Under the coaching of Tomi Krenzie, the girls gained valuable knowledge and ex- perience. Although the Pacific Coast League remains one of the toughest in C.I.F., three teams of which are ranked in the top ten. the mustangs came out fighting. The girls played an intense game against Orange, but narrowly lost with a heartbreaking score of 20-18. Their entire season was very similar to that game. Team Captains, Kim Jordan and Tracy Sco- field, provided helpful encourage- ment and respectable leadership throughout the season. Both Emily Creely and Stacy White received the Most Improved award for their tre- mendous effort and dedication, while Denise Surmon gained the Most In- spirational award. Sherry Norton.
