J.V. Finishes Strongg Varsity Ends Dismal Year 'SWait til next year, was the cry of this year's Varsity Basketball team as the Mustangs won only a scarce amount of contests. Although the wins were few, the excitement was there as in the Dana Hills game, when the famed Dr, F.,,' Mark Falke, slammed in a swooping dunk shot to cap David Dawels 25 point performance and Mesa's first win, 55-47. Coach Joe Dominicis first Varsity season has shown him looking for height and improvement on next year's squad. Other good Varsity players were playmaking guard Willie Stavricos, consistent guard Jim Edson, Junior forward Chris Beasley and Canadian Jeff Hiscock. The J.V. team did as expected, finishing high in the standings. Led by Freshmen Roger Lackey and Mike Love along with brothers Steve and Billy Lux, the Me- sans won most of their games by a considerable margins. Coach Mark Embree was very pleased with the way the team played all year, especially with the younger players the Junior Varsity had. But this experience will prove to be valuable as the youngsters grow into stronger Varsity players of the future. l.
