Girls Tennis Finish Very Successful Year The Girls' Varsity Tennis team for 1977 placed very well in South Coast League play. Led all year by Soph- omore Becky Barmore's consistent singles play, the Mustang girls finished with an 8-6 record and a third place standing in league. Barmore's domination of most of the other teamis first seeded singles girls was the strong point in Mesa's outstanding season, which was one of their best in the past five years. The doubles team of Sylvia Roldan and Dori Al- guire gave the Mesans much needed points in crucial matches. The highlight of both these girls' season was the doubles win over Corona del Mar's league cham- pion doubles team. Other exceptional players were Pam Wight, Naomi Gruenthal and Janet Korey. Wight and Gruenthal had their strong points for the netters, usually playing very exciting matches. I. Sylvia Roldan returns a volley with a strong backhand smash. 2.
