A yearbook sports section .traditionally recounts the victories and losses of an academic school year. The successes and defeats of this year's teams were dwarfed and made to seem insignificant as we suffered perhaps the greatest loss of all - that of our equipment man and friend, Tony LaBruno, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 25, 1978. So many Thank you's were left unsaid, includ- ing the Parent-Teacher-Student Association QPTSAJ Honorary Life Membership award pre- sented yearly to that person in the Mustang Com- munity who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in service. This award was to be a surprise presentation to Tony on Wednesday, March 8, ap- proximately one week after his passing. And so with this, the sports staff of Costa Mesa High School would like to say a final Thank you and dedicate this section to a man the 'athletic staff and department all loved, Tony LaBruno.
