Stage Band Swings Through Another Season ill Stage band got off to a slow start this year with some- .ff what of an attendance problem. The highpoint of the year came one day in rehearsal when the entire stage band came to class in good health. This group first performed in a lunch time concert which was fairly successful. For the Winter Concert, several weeks later, their hard work paid off with spontaneous applause and calls for encores . f The Chaffey and OCC jazz festivals kept the group busy perfecting their techniques and improvising. Fin- ishing off the year, Stage Band performed in the Spring Concert. I. There goes my double E , 2. It's all in the wrist Ken, not in the pucker. 3. Sue Wright honks her way to victory. .Si- Ft. 493. I I , '- it VL . mi Gamb ers home To SEDD Las Vegas Night Do you remember the night the boys gym was magi- cally transformed into a gambling casino? Actually, it wasn't magic at all, the floor was carpeted and game tables were set up by hard working members of S.E.D.D. Cheerleaders were dressed as cocktail waitresses and tantalized the gamblers with their unmatched charm. TransAm provided background music. Judy Lux sang her way into the gambler,s hearts, and David Meek dis- played his own special talent for magic during the floor shows. The night ended with an auction of prizes donated by local merchants. Bill Graham acted as auctioneer and it wasnlt long until everyone had spent his money and the room was transformed back to our gym as we know it. Only that didn't happen by magic either. I. Violins, violas, chellos, a bass, and piano, backed by a few wind instruments create the whole unit in full. This year the orchestra performed with the stage band and concert band in the annual winter concert. Towards the end of the year, they worked extra hard to make their spring concert the best ever performed. It takes extra time and dedication to be a member of the orchestra. But in the end it all pays off in the form of beautiful music. l. Doni Newman practices flute for orchestra. 2. Julie Nakashima plays her violin in time. 3. Traci Mays plays. ACTIVITIES 215
