Bank Awards Given To Outstanding Seniors With the selection of the plaque and certificate award winners from the Bank of America Achievement Awards, Costa Mesa High School honors sixteen out- standing seniors. Continuing in the program, the school awards stu- dents who have attained high academic achievement, a sense of responsibility and evidence of leadership, promising future success. Chosen this year for the top students in the general fields of Fine Arts, Liberal Arts, Science and Mathe- matics and Vocational Arts are Mike Walsh, Jennifer Dies, David Dawe and Judy Lux. These plaque winners were able to compete in the program for additional awards. Twelve outstanding seniors were selected in specific study fields also. These winners include: Kathy Patter- son - Art, Carol Elliott - Drama, Michael Schafer - Music, Dena Kleck - English, Jill Freeman - Foreign Languages, Neal Naito - Social Studies, Judy Croker - Laboratory Science, Don O,Neal - Mathematics, Cyn- thia Miller - Agriculture, Charmaine Crocker - Busi- ness, Brenda Shirley - Home Economics, and, Beven Grams - Trade and Industrial. Newspaper Proves It, AHS Well That Ends . 7' As the newspaper staff started working this year, so did Murphyis Law f lf anything can go wrong, it willf, Problems such as running out of supplies the day of the deadline, writing the news and then having it change, finding out what you cannot do after you have already done it and others were met and solved by this year's Hitching Post staff. Controversial Editor-in-chief Cyndy Massey was the only returning editor. She led the troops against merci- less odds to bring the news and more often argument to the Mesa campus. The true judge of a good article became, 'gDid it get someome angry or stir something up? All in all, the Newspaper staff, through all of their headaches and deadlines, set out and proved that great things and enjoyable experiences can come out of insan- ity. l. 493. I I , '- it VL . mi Gamb ers home To SEDD Las Vegas Night Do you remember the night the boys gym was magi- cally transformed into a gambling casino? Actually, it wasn't magic at all, the floor was carpeted and game tables were set up by hard working members of S.E.D.D. Cheerleaders were dressed as cocktail waitresses and tantalized the gamblers with their unmatched charm. TransAm provided background music. Judy Lux sang her way into the gambler,s hearts, and David Meek dis- played his own special talent for magic during the floor shows. The night ended with an auction of prizes donated by local merchants. Bill Graham acted as auctioneer and it wasnlt long until everyone had spent his money and the room was transformed back to our gym as we know it. Only that didn't happen by magic either. I.
