Frosh-Soph Runners Fare well In League Finals This year's 1978 Frosh-Soph Team finished well in the tough South Coast league. The Mustangs had problems, once again, with a lack of participation in a few events. Fortunately, with hard work from Jon Crackel and Ross Lajeunesse in the distance and Scott LaCrosse in the 880, the squad pushed on to victory. ln the sprints the Mustangs were very impressive, being led by Reggie Zeal and Yuji Kohara in the 100 and 220 yard dashes. Mike Hamada held his own in long and triple jump events. With this small but exceptional team, Coach Joe Fisher is being left with an excellent nucleus for next year's varsity. 1. .lohn Gerhardt runs like the wind to a 4:14 mile. 2. .lon Crackcl and Ross Lajuenesse place 1-2 in the two-mile. Costa Mesa Girls Uutrun League Gpponents Girls Track for 1978 had the usual average year- finishing in the middle of the circuit standings. Led by defending champions Sheryl Romahn and Joclin Fisher in the 880 and the 2 mile respectively, the girls stayed with most opponents, dominating the mil relay. A good freshmen crop along with good sprinters and hurdlers also helped greatly as Valerie Waters, Su Young and Romahn led this part of the squad. With coach Wettengel pushing the girls to their maxi- mum, the distances were strong as Fisher, Sue Kolar and Romahn led the way. A lot of underclassmen make the outlook for coach Wettengel's team in the future, very promising. l. Track team members stretch before an afternoon workout. 2. Smiles make all the hard work secm easier. 3. Sue Justice strives to finish the last stretch. 4. lflurdler Linda Maul sails across one of her many obstacles. 5. The l978 team takes an easy jog around the track. 6. Building up cardiovascular endurance are Dori Price, Katie Criely, Valerie Waters and Sandra Lara. 7, Sophomore Su Young leads the pack. X.
