Without a sprinter in sight, the distance racers had to bring up the pace, as they were led by Joe Young, John Gerhardt and Brian Thompson. Also, hurdling was a strong point for the Mustangs as Rick Ayers in the 330 LH and Junior Mike Moiso in the 120 HH had a consistently good race every week. These two, along with sub-50 second quarter-milers Ron Shackelford and Mark Charkey, made up one of the county's best mile relay teams. Weight-men were Mark Mathieson, Mike Scarlett and John Olsen, These three strong runners gave the team many needed points. Also coaching were: Sprint coach, John Carney, Weight coach, Doug Brown and field event coach, Doug McClean. I. Team Captains Joe Young, John Gerhardt, Rick Ayers and Bob Hughes. 2. Frosh-Soph, J.V.'s Keep Slugging For Victory This year's Frosh-Soph and Junior Varsity Baseball teams had a better than expected season with both teams finishing up the year with a mixed record. The Frosh-Soph, coached by Mark Embree, had many thrills, including a come-from-behind 7-6 win over Rancho Alamitos, as the youngsters scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win. This squad,s standouts were Jon Richardson, Terry Bedell, Max Marold, Mike Love and Randy Lackey. The Junior Varsity team had defense trouble, but the hitting was better than in past years, with most of their games getting into high scores. The pitching was consistent on the strong arm of Joe Schwalbe along with the bats of Dave Pelichowski and Andy Golberg. Fielding was a poor spot in this year's .I.V. team with Rich Long having to pick up most of the slack, as he played almost errorless ball all year. Varsity coach Gmur can't wait to get these younger players into his upperclass program. I. Thrcc-year letterman Tom England shows his stance in playing u ground baH. 2. Fircballer Cliff Ting goes into his wind-up with Kirk Bauer- mcsiter and Jerry Cribbs backing him up. l l00 SPORTS
