COSTA MESA VS. FULLERTON Costa Mesa lost its fifth straight of the seasonto Fullerton at Davidson Field. Dennis McGavack had afine night for his passing, hitting for eight out of ten, for 122 yards. Steve Colflesh, the split end, caughta McGavack pass for a touchdown, Mesa's only score of the evening. Last year Mesa lost to Fullerton at O. C. C. by a twenty- six to nothing count. COSTA MESA VS. BUENA PARK At Buena Park for their sixth league game, Mesa couldn't get a good drive started, asthey lost for the first time in league play by a shut out. Carl Glascow was really the only bright spot in the game for Mesa as he came off the bench in the closing minutes to get a drive going with short passes. The Mustangs drove to the Coyote twenty yard line before the gun sounded to end Mesa's hopes. COSTA MESA VS. ORANGE Led by Scott Gatzke's passing and john Ball's running , Mesa almost pulled and upset over Orange at Chapman College. Ball ran sixty- seven yards for a touchdown with McGavack getting the PAT. Steve Colflesh gotthe second TD on a pass from Gatzke. Ball gained 110 yards total, and Mesa had their best show- ing ofthe year in ground gaining with 212 yards net total. COSTA NLESA VS. NEWPORT HARBOR Newport beat Mesa for their second win ofthe series and the Mustangs for the first time had to relinquish the trophy. Dennis McGavac1-c gained fifty-eight yards, most of them on a long run around left end. john Ball and Pat Doldo also carried for good yardage. jim Ferryman led the defense to cause Newport to lose the bull twice and throw Newport quarterbacks for thirty-six yards in losses.

COSTA MESA VS. TUSTIN Northrup Field was the scene for the latest of the Tiller-Mustang series. Tustinwinningbothprevious contests, and proving to be on top again. Mesa led by john Ball and Pat Doldo wasin scoringpositiononfive occasions, but Tustin held when it counted. Mesa's defense was again one of the bright spots of the game recovering three fumbles and throwing the Tillers for forty-nine yards in losses. COSTA MESA VS. GARDEN GROVE At Davidson Field for their first home Freeway league encounter, Costa Mesa held a fourteen to zero lead at the half. Scoring was by jerry McPherson, Dennis McGavack, jim Dryden, and Randy Wilson, jim Ferryman broke a school record with nineteen un- assisted tackles and helped on eight others. He also recovered a fumble. Steve Steward recovered an onsides kick and killed an Argo drive by intercepting a pass. COSTA MESA VS. MARINA In beginning their seasonthe Mustangs lost to defensive-minded Marina of Huntington Beach. John Ball playing tailback was the offensive standout for Costa Mesa, rushing for fifty-four yards. jim Ferryman led the green and white defense to an outstanding performance, holding Marina to one touchdown, and causing the winners thirty- one yards in losses. COSTA MESA VS. BOLSA GRANDE Travelingto Garden Grove, Mesa was defeated after ashort lead in the first half. Clyde Graham scored Mesa's first touchdown of the season, on a tackle-eligible play from Dennis McGavack. On the defensive team, jim Erwin had a couple of good punt returns, although he was encircled on each kick by the Matadoors, who have sprint champ Randy julian at halfback.
