The student body gave us a nice reception and school life became a routine. Our officers, Doran Anderson, Putter Morse, Alice Russell, and Bob Webster, helped to make our sophomore year a well organized and successful one. The sophomore party was strictly hillbilly style, but the assembly we put on later proved to the other classes that we were anything but hillbillies. Our junior class officers, Paul Lee, John Schaffer, Alice Smith, and Clarence Paul, led us through a year that brought in the money. We harvested filberts, beets, and almost everything. The iunidr sales committee kept the school supplied in refreshments at all the athletic func- tions. lt was this class that won thedstudent body ticket race and put on the swell comedy, Brother Goose. ln the same year, we financed and decorated the all-school formalfthus admitting every boy and girl that wanted to come. Completing our senior year and our history in CHS, we find such competent officers as Doran Anderson, Dick Edmondson, Mary Gearey, and Beatrice Funk. Keeping up our reputation of winning, we bought more bonds and student body tickets than any other class. This year's Circus brought lots of excitement as did the newly organized Variety Shows 'on Friday, sponsored by the noon hour committee. The class of forty-five leaves its gift as a token of thanks to the school for three years of educational guidance in leadership, cooperation, and scholastic achievement. . .f SEWER MSS lllfflmflilg Top row: Doran Anderson, Dick Edmondson. SCHENK Superintendent of Schools TO THE CLASS OF l945: After two decades of sophistication, depression and cynicism, we find ourselves in an age of heroism. From the sound sub- stratum of our homes, churches, schools and communities has sprung a race of heroes. An army officer says: Our kids, American boys, are iust kind of automatically wonderful. Just through our own way of life they get something that makes them superior fighters. They don't have to be indoctrinated and have it hammeredrin for months or years. The fighter pilot flies with his heart. The thing that makes him superior in combat is inside him all the time. We are proud of your individual and group achievement. While you have been attending school and growing up, you have attained a capacity to think for yourself, a sense of respon- sibility, a sense of loyalty, a sense of fellow feeling, a love of truth, a love of freedom, and a respect for human dignity. As the class of T945 ioins the throng of potential heroes grow- ing up among us, we commend your selfless devotion to duty and hope that you will dedicate your, lives to freedom and all the ideals of-democracy. J. F. SCHENK, Superintendent of Schools, Corvallis, Oregon. Principal's Message During another year of school with America at war the students of Corvallis Senior High School have at all times been alert and ready to respond to every emergency for the nation and the school. The fine leadership manifested by the members of this senior class will have a lasting influence during the years ahead. They leave this institution with our blessings and good wishes, and we, who are left, pledge ourselves to maintain or improve the present high standards of friendship, sportsmanship and scholarship which they have helped to achieve. R. G. CUNLIFFE, Principal, Corvallis High School, Corvallis, Oregon. UEUHUEZMVHUN To Mr. Alvin W. Meade, for his splendid example of cooperation, friendliness, and untiring interest during his ten years of serv- ice at Corvallis High School, we, the students, do dedicate this issue of the C hintimini. Mr. Meade started his present work as custodian of Corvallis High in February, 1935. Besides being an expert carpenter, Mr. Meade devotes much of his time to his hobby -music. He has indeed made our school a more comfortable, pleasant, and attractive place in which to live and work together. B! QF? FUREWHRU May the Class of 7945 find in this Thirty-sixth Volume of the Chintimini many recollections of true friends, of teachers, and of enjoyable hours spent in Corvallis High School. May you always retain the spirit of loyalty and comradeship which has been instilled in you during your high school days. V Eclifor ........ . .Allan G1fBer'f .BUSINESS Mdhd9CK .
