q THEIR STORY i i I The social spotlight focused here and there on the many Senior girls who found their Uprinces charming among the under classmen. Dame Rumor hinted that the 'lcradle snatching was due to the fact that the lunior girls held their Senior heroes in tow. To the football team goes the credit for a brilliant season. Coach Shafer's boys fur- nished the spectators with many thrills, 'lLefty Calkinsis 55-yard run for a touchdown in the Sayre game. Walter Hartwell caused a commotion in the Gnondoga Valley game when he kicked off only to find the ball behind him when he finished, The first scheduled games of the basketball season were played out of towng the rest, in the newly completed gym. The team retaliated for the Norwich football defeat by winning two basketball victories over them. The star game cf the season was Cortland's triumph over Union Endicott, 39-34, when they were at the top of the League. Prominent at both football and basketball games were the peppy cheerleaders, who the rooting section agreed turned in a fine job. At the last game a fine gesture of real sportsmanship was shown by the lunior Sguad when they turned the entire leading of cheers over to the Senior Sguad. For a few minutes sentiment ran high as our spirited cheerleaders, for the last time, spurred on their team to victory for Qld Cortland High. Both school publications, the l'Purple Pennant and the 'Co-Hi-An, have increased in number of subscriptions this year. Miss l-lamelin and Miss Haug, with their able Purple Pennant Staff, are to be complimented for their work in putting out such a splendid paper. We are eagerly awaiting the publication of the Co-Hi-An, for our curiosity has been aroused all year, by members of the staff here and there, with pen and camera, spotting material. With this collection to draw from and the capable leadership of our yearbook adviser, Miss Tallant, we are sure to have an interesting annual. With our last year drawing to a close our heads are filled with the oncoming events of graduation. Already, we are looking forward to the Senior Dance scheduled for May 29, Senior Day on lune 7, and, finally, our graduation on lune 25. Naturally, we are proud to have tasted this much of success, but most of us realize that this attainment is, after all, but a commencement in the life which we must BUILD. lUGH THE PCANDID CAMERA'S EY 5155
