The scene of the play was laid in a jail cell where Bill Rollard, portrayed by Malcolm Alama, tried to get away from the ever-chattering Mrs. Mormonby QDorothy Parsons? and his fiancee, Helen Mormonby, CLucille Hartranftb. He had intentionally caused himself to be put in iail by strilcing a policeman, thinlring that, thus, he might find a secluded spot in which to finish his story for 'True Secrets . Cliver Stanton and lrvine Smith were guards in the jail. Among Billfs manv visitors were his colored maid, Barbara Abbott, his pupil, Barbara Moench, and a friendly newspaper reporter, Robert Sherry. The play had a surprise ending when Dean Druster Uohn Haynes? under whom Bill Pollard had been teaching in college, was found to be the editor of mlrue Secrets , and when Bill switched his affections from Helen to Rae Cclean Clarld, who had helped him finish his prize-winning story. COUNTER CLOCKWlSE The opening season of High School dramatics this year featured three one act plays presented under the direction of Miss Barbara Chaloux. The first play was a mystery, Hcounter Cloclcwisen. ln the opening scene, a murdered woman Uanet Jonesb was discovered, and the cloclc was turned bacl4 covering the time of the murder. Sylvia Harris portrayed Emily, a young girl suspected of murder, while Molly Mazzoli, as Elizabeth, tried to prove Emilys guilt. Charles Brown, as the doctor, aided in proving her innocence. This was the initial performance for all characters involved, and the audience felt that new talent had been dis- covered. THE ELDEST The second of the series was a tragedy entitled the Hbldestu, by Edna ferber. It concerned the life of an older sister who sacrificed her freedom and lover, Reginald Young, for her ungrateful younger brother, Miles Burlingame, her sister, Betty Coon, her invalid mother, Elizabeth Gardiner, and an indifferent father, Robert Harrison. Helen Masten gave a very convincing performance as the older sister, Beatrice Fabrizio played the part of a critical neighbor. THE WEDDING The last of the one act plays was 'ifhe Vifeddingn, by John lfirlcpatriclq a play familiar to the audience since it is studied in first year English. The characters gave a clever performance. Malcolm Alamo made a very natural appearing bridegroom and Dorothy Learn, the bride. Marilyn Joiner portrayed the fussy old maid. George Bowers, the best man, and Charles Lines, an usher, supported the groom. Marv Gibson, the groomis mother and Alan Rierson, the brides father furnished comedy.
