MQ92 ll-3 C O ll-ll 1 .Gm m9.1i THE HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF I93l In September 1927 a tldal wave broke and deposited three hundred and thlrty five green Freshmen ln the old chapel under the care and protectlon of Mrs Ceorge since then retlred We were the largest class at that tlme to enter the Semor Hlgh School and we joyously looked forward to four frultful years here m thls mstltutlon Tlme has shown that our expectatlons were not false 1 uslons As Freshmen we chose for class officers Presldent W1n1fred Burns Vlce Presldent M1lt0H Latimer Secretary Elizabeth Blllmgs Treasurer Harold Kelley Green and orchld were chosen for our class colors Even as freshmen we were well represented on all the varsxty athletic teams On December 16 three one act plays The Trystmg Place Statlon YYYY and Brldges were presented under the dlrectlon of Mr Earl Selgfred These plays were true 1nd1cat1ons of the dramatlc ablhty of various members of our class Thus the year passed and IH September 1928 we assembled in MISS Luker s room Although our number had dlmmlshed three rooms were requlred to ac commodate us As a result of the class electlon held early 1n the sprmg of 1929 Joseph Adessa became our new Presldent Lllllan Grant V108 Presldent Richard Ross Secretary and Marlan Foley Treasurer Blue and sand were chosen for class colors that year On March 20 we presented Booth Tarkmgton s Seven teen as our class play And so another year passed After the summer months had come and gone we at last felt the thrlll of being upperclassmen and under the tutelage of MISS Calusha we soon became accus tomed to our new dutles On October 25 We presented Dulcy a comedy ln three acts under the dlrectlon of Mr Olum When we organlzed ln the sprung Lllllall Grant was selected as Presldent Joseph Adessa VICE Presldent Ellzabeth Blll1I1gS Secretary and Arnold Lormore Treasurer A dancmg party was held ln the gymnaslum to complete our organwatlon In the boys lnterclass basketball tournament we received first place In June the debaters of the class of 31 won the VerNooy cup from the class of 30 whlch was a very unusual feat for a Junlor c ass When m September 1930 we met wlth Mr Loder for the first tlme we at last experlenced the Joy of being dlgmfied and somewhat sophlstlcated Semors We took up our dutles wlth a wlll and became a model for all others to follow 1n respect to deportment and the pursuit of our studles At our last class electlon the personnel of the officers elected were Presldent Rlchard Ross Vlce Presldent Elmabeth BllllI1gS Secretary Joseph Adessa Treasurer Dorothy Whltbeck Our Semor class play was glven on December 12 and 13 It was the most stupen dous affalr ever staged by any class and earned pralse from everyone The play was Monsleur Beaucalre from the pen of Booth Tarkmgton Our boys were agam vlctorlous 1n the mterclass basketball tournament but they were not out done by the girls who also captured first place ln the glrls tournament Early ln the sprmg teams were organized for the annual magazme sellmg contest and It was not due to the lack of lnterest and hard work on our part that the sale was lower than that of the precedlng year but rather to conditions which We were not able to govern We are proud of the record we have made While we may not excell other classes ln all respects yet we feel confident that we have made a lasting and deep 1mpress1on on thls school one whlch wlll not grow dlm with the years We have established a goal to whlch succeedmg classes may asplre And so that wave whlch brought us here as a class of three hundred and thlrty fixe now recedes takmg out wlth 1t one hundred and twenty proud trlumphant and confident members of the class of 31 Robert C oombs -I 9 lf ' , ,, ru 1 EJ T H Q - A N eg QI iq YYY Y, YYY V K-v Yriw YYVY f 4-T4 VA Y Yi? 77 Y l I . 1 ' 1 - n 11 - - - , l .
