NEWS RICHARD Ross The Sophomore class thls year IS one of the largest ln years The mcommg Frosh 1n January made It necessary for some of the older Freshmen to move out to make room for them Thls added slxty two new members to our regular class of one hundred and elghty makmg the grand total of two hundred and forty two The new system a seat for every pupll caused the Sophs to make use of flve home rooms The regular Sophomores have rooms 204 under Mlss Mary Gale 206 under MISS E Sallsbury and 207 under our dean MISS Luker The Subs are 1n rooms 301 and 312 under the leadersh1p of Mlss Orser and Mrs Eaton respect1vely The class of 31 showed 1ts ab1l1ty ln athletlcs by placmg several men on C H S teams On the football squad were Captaln elect F Paqum J Call C May Lat1mer J Adessa Anthony R Morgan and Rlch Ross On the lndoor court J Call R Ross J Adessa and MltCh1HSOH upheld the classhonors There are also several of our worthy members on the C H S baseball and track squads The bowlmg and lnterclass basketball teams dxd not fare so well ln games won thls year but they have the one consolatlon that they dld thelr best Our glrls showed thelr class to stand second to the Junlors ln the glrls lnter class basketball They won four games and lost two only one game behmd the leaders There are several of our boys IH the Hlgh School band whlch won Class B 1n the Mus1c Festwal held Aprll 26 27 The class came through wlth thq old C H S Splflt and sold over 200 sub scrlptlons to the C0 H1 An On March 27 1929 the Sophomores held thelr orgamzatlon and elected the followlng officers Presldent Joseph Adessa V1ce Presxdent L1ll1an Grant Secre tary Rlchard Ross and Treasurer Marlan Foley As a part of the organlzatlon parts of the play Seventeen were presented ln Chapel The ret1r1ng oflicers were Presldent Wlmfred Burns V109 Presldent M1ltonLat1mer Secretary Ehza beth B1llmgs and Treasurer Harold Kelly The class colors were blue and sand One of the b1g events of the year was the present1ng of the four act play Sex enteen by Booth Tarklngton The play was a dec1ded success due to the ablhty of the players and Prof Selgfred under whose d1rect1on lt was glven The Sophomore class deeply regrets the passlng of Vlarlon Beverly Perry a member whom we mlss greatly Her memory Wlll always remaln 1n our hearts as 1 true student who was well llked by her classmates but has gone to answer H1s call from abox e The Class of 31 takes thls opportunlty to thank 1ts dean Mxss Luker for her untlrmg efforts to make th1s year a most successful one lille lf' , , . , , , NW ' ' ' ' 'W ' ' ' W ' ' ' ' ' 'f' na lvl Y W irgw in frifr nr Y WW' i if IJ :owl K'4L9al 1 ' ' an ' n u n 1 a 1 ' 7 a - u rr - - - . , . . . . . . . . .
