'C-35-5' Tll-lllE COHTAN Beginnlng and advanced swimming and diving under the able direction of Miss Zimmerman ol the Y VN C A and Hr Alter of the Y NI C A have occupied the time of the boys and girls swimming clubs Some remarkable work has been done in the aviation clubs In the beginners club actual flying models have been constructed and the elementary principles of flying have been studied No one is eligible to membership in the adv 'tnced club who has not already constructed a model that will fly and in this group led eintlrely by the students themselves advanced study has progressed to a surprising egree In dramatics the three clubs have held many interesting and entertaining sessions for club members only and have contributed live programs to the J unlor assemblies The line arts clubs have been noteworthy in awakening an appreciation ol the beauty which is ours for the taking ln nature art books and travel The Work of the manual arts clubs has consisted ln making pillows and lamp shades dresses and other articles of clothing in learning to give teas and to enter tain and also in printlng from hand set type and from designs cut in linoleum blocks The scouts have had a large number of boys and girls passing the tenderfoot meetings out of doors including hikes cornroasts and sleighrldes The service clubs have brought sunshine and happiness to many others and have made a large number ot articles which have helped to brighten the l1v es ot less fortunate boys and girls Teachers and pupils alike with scarcely an exception have been enthusiastic in support of the club idea and we feel that this beginning should lead to ev en more successful work next year Student organization also has furnished evidence of hitherto undreamed of ability along the line ol student participation All home rooms are organized and in several of these the students have taken charge not only of routine Work such as attendance and neatness ot rooms but also ol all matters of discipline Some rooms have sets of printed rules of order drawn up by the pupils and en forced by the officers and sev eral trials have been held by councils vxhlch deude the disposition of various cases lhls has xll originated from the pupils as h ive also organization of science classes into clubs In whlch the boys and girls conduct much of the actual class work We wish to express our appreciation to all who have contributed to this remarkable success and we are only sorry that limited space prevents a really adequate presentation of what has been accomplished l31l 'ECQVJ i -r4L95i . ' 1 1 - Z'-S65-1 - '-4922 THE COHIAN Eiga JUNIOR ORCHESTRA JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA Loyal students of the Junior High School have faithfully glven adequate service by their support to the J unlor High School Orchestra The group consists of forty five instruments including v1ol1ns 1st and 2nd piano drums clarlnets bass saxaphone trombones and trumpets vacancies left by graduated Qeniors ln the Qenior Orchestra It also provldes music at the weekly J unlor assemblies This organization gained an encouraging reputation for itself when it played at the Central and Northern New York Music Festlval held in the high school auditorium recently The members have made unusual efforts to develop this successful organlza tion and under the supervision of Prof Willard Green who has worked patiently and whose untirlng service has been a valuable influence the orchestra has pro duced gratifying results 141 EGP: 'i U s I The orchestra has improved steadily since its inception.
