THE COHIAN :zQm V03 BAND NOTES Last fall a new organlzatlon was started ln Central Hlgh It was a Cortland Hlgh School Band whlch was the result of a large enthuslastlc lnterest IH the musxclans of our school and the untlrlng efforts of 1tS able dlrector Mr Wlllard B Green Asslstant Supervlsor of MUSIC The Band whlch was somethlng entlrely new had to start from the very bottom and work upward However due to lntenslve practlce they soon were able to master the new muslc The Board of Education took much interest IH the progress of the Band and bought them a good drum outfit a barltone horn and a wonderful new sousaphone The Band made its first publlc appearance ln one of the Wednesday Chapel perlods early last fall and became very popular wlth the student body Followlng 1tS 1n1t1al appearance the Band was ever ln demand lhey were present to lend plenty of pep and Splflt at football games and played an lmportant part ln the huge bonfire and mass meeting whlch was held on Randall Flats the eve of the tradltlonal Norwlch Central Grldlron Battle Durlng the past wlnter the Band has added lnterest at all the home basket ball games It was out especlally 1n full force for both Normal Central games This sprlng the Band worked very hard to make thelr Flrst Annual Concert a success Other concerts were put on ln nearby towns by the Band to raxse money for the Band Fund for buylng new umforms and equlpment The crowning success of the near was when the Band went to the Western New York MUSIC Festlval held at Fredonla N Y from Aprll 23 27 It was there that the New York State Band Contest was held In the Fredonla State Normal School Cortland H S Band made the trip of 250 mlles by bus and were gone three days l here they made a wonderful lmpresslon upon the Judges and secured flrst place ln Class D whlch was open to all first year bands By Wlhlllng Flrst Place the Band won possesslon of a large bronze tablet and ll1dlV1dU3.l awards for lts members I'he Band was organlzed and elected the following members President Rg,ssBartlett Secre tary Donald J Pease lreasurer Albert Stewart lr It now includes over forty members and looks for a very successful year ln the fall It loses by graduation two of its members namely Donald Pease trumpet and Albert Stewart trombone I'he band takes thls opportunity to thank Miss Marsh and the Board of Fducatlon for their cooperatlon l17l l , . . , - 1 r ' . , , . 1 1 ' . . . .. .
