omrrzander Amphibious quadron Pour Captain Kamrad was born in Trenton, New fersey where he enlisted in the Navy in 1946. He entered flight training from the fleet and was commissioned following his designation as a Naval Aviator in .Iune 1950. From 1950 through 1953, Captain Kamrad flew P2V patrol aircraft with VP-931 and later VP-57 on deployments to Kwajalein, in the South Pacific, Kodiak, Alaska, and Atsugi, fapan. In 1954, 1955'and 1956, he was a flight instructor at Whiting and Corry Fields in Pensacola, Florida. Returning to sea duty in 1957, Captain Kamrad flew ASW missions in Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron THREE IHS-31 for the next two years while the squadron operated from the decks of USS TARAWA KCVS-402, USS LEYTE ICVS-321, USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN ICVS-391 and USS ESSEX ICVS-91. Following this tour, he was ordered to duty aboard the amphibious assault ship USS BOXER ILPH-41 as Hangar Deck Officer and Aircraft Maintenance Officer. In 1960, 1961 a d 1962 C ' K d n , aptatn amra was the Operations Officer on the Staff of Oceanographic System Atlantic. This tour was followed by assignment to the Active Officers Promotion Branch in the B - N l ureau of ava Personnel. In 1964 and 1965, he was a student at the' U.S. Navy Postgraduate School, Monterey California where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. In May 1966, Captain Kamrad reported to He,licop5.er An5i-Sub- marine Squadron FIVE IHS-51 as Executive Officer.
