It sad 9 nts a significant six months in the lives of was a period marked by times of joy as wel as times of ness. we were separated, but it was an opportunity to see another side of the world, to meet new people and learn new customs, to grow - professionally, and to serve our country. For us in CORONADO the high light of the cruise came in July with the evacuation of hundreds of American citizens and third country nationals from the war torn count of Lebanon. He was assigned to flight training as a Naval Aviation Cadet in 1951 and commissioned an Ensign and desig- nated a Naval Aviator the following year. From 1953 - 1956 he served in fighter squadrons embarked in USS BOXER and USS HANCOCK and deployed to the Western Pacific. Assigned for the next three years to the Naval Air Special Weapons Facility in Albuquerque, N.M., Captain LeBlanc flew in support of AEC research and development projects. He participated as a weapons effects test pilot during atomic tests at the Eniwetok Proving Crounds in 1958. In 1959 he was assigned to VX-5 as a project pilot developing final delivery bombing tactics for light attack and fighter aircraft. Commencing in 1961 he served a two year tour as Nuclear Readiness Officer on the Staff of COMNA VAIRLANT. Except for six months at the Armed Forces Staff College, Captain LeBlanc spent the next six years in attack squadrons, deploying with SIXTH and SECOND Fleets embarked in USS ENTERPRISE and USS AMERICA and with the SEVENTH Fleet in the Culf of Tonkin embarked in USS INTREPID and again in ENTERPRISE. During the latter Captain LeBlanc commanded VA-215. In 1969 he was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations where he served as Program Co- ordinator for the A-7 aircraft. The following year he returned to the West Coast and command of VA-125, a Fleet Readiness Squadron training replacement pilots for A-7 fleet squadrons. omrrzander Amphibious quadron Pour Captain Kamrad was born in Trenton, New fersey where he enlisted in the Navy in 1946. He entered flight training from the fleet and was commissioned following his designation as a Naval Aviator in .Iune 1950. From 1950 through 1953, Captain Kamrad flew P2V patrol aircraft with VP-931 and later VP-57 on deployments to Kwajalein, in the South Pacific, Kodiak, Alaska, and Atsugi, fapan. In 1954, 1955'and 1956, he was a flight instructor at Whiting and Corry Fields in Pensacola, Florida. Returning to sea duty in 1957, Captain Kamrad flew ASW missions in Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron THREE IHS-31 for the next two years while the squadron operated from the decks of USS TARAWA KCVS-402, USS LEYTE ICVS-321, USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN ICVS-391 and USS ESSEX ICVS-91. Following this tour, he was ordered to duty aboard the amphibious assault ship USS BOXER ILPH-41 as Hangar Deck Officer and Aircraft Maintenance Officer. In 1960, 1961 a d 1962 C ' K d n , aptatn amra was the Operations Officer on the Staff of Oceanographic System Atlantic. This tour was followed by assignment to the Active Officers Promotion Branch in the B - N l ureau of ava Personnel. In 1964 and 1965, he was a student at the' U.S. Navy Postgraduate School, Monterey California where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
