Fenno lived in Alaska from the age of two and attended the University of Alaska prior to entering the U.S. Naval Academy in September 1945. After graduation from the Naval Academy in 1949 he returned to civilian life in Dillingham, Alaska until being called into the navy in 1951. Captain Fenno served first on board the gasoline tanker USS Namakagan CAOG 531 and became executive officer prior to his next assignment to Destroyer DeHaven CDD 7271 as Operations 'Officer. A tour as NROTC instructor at Pennsylvania State University followed in 1956. y He went to sea as Commanding Officer USS Steuben County CLST 11381 in july 1958. And was next assigned as Executive Officer of Destroyer USS Watts CDD 5671. When the-Naval Destroyer School at Newport, R.l. was established Captain Fenno reported to the school in August 1961 as an instructor in operations, seamanship and navigation- reporting several months prior to the arrival of the first class in order to help draft the curriculum lesson plans and procedures Two years later he attended the Naval War College ln july 1964 Captain Fenno reported to Chief Naval Advisory Group Vietnam as Plans Officer and remained in Saigon until November 1965 Tours followed as Commanding Officer of Destroyer USS Southerland CDD 7341 in San Diego and Chief Staff Officer of Amphibious Squadron Two in Little Creek In july 1969 he was assigned as Chief Southeast Asia Policy Section with Commander In Chief Pacific in Hawaii A tour of one year with Defense Special Projects Group in Washington D C in 1971 was followed by assignment as Navy Liaison Officer Lo the Commandant of the Coast Guard also In Washington D C His present assignment camean Fe ruary 1974 where amidst the trop,ical waters of the Caribbean he relieved Captain Martin 1 Twite jr as Commanding Officer of USS Coronado CLPD 111 Captain Fenno is married to the former Mary Alice McGee of Hazleton Pennsylvania They have five daughters Anne Margaret Christine Nancy and Sarah 18 r ' I 1 1 1 .
