Tryouts were held in the fall and 40 students participated. Of the 16 soccer players, half the team returned from last year, resulting in half the team being seniors. The players appointed Barton Leonard to re- present them as captain, with Greg Rogers and Shervin Zolghan- ain as co-captains. The soccer team did not have their best year, but the players were subjected to the loss of some players due to injuries. Other problems encountered this year concerned a lack of cohesiveness by the team, commented Coach Dave Whitmer. The team began practice in the fall and members were on the field every weekday from 2:45 until 4:50 to improve their skills. They began their season on November 25, with a home game against Shadow Mountain. Throughout the season, im- provement was made especially by Robert Johnson. The promi- nent players on the team were seniors Danny Sanchez and Brett Carnival. The goals set at the beginning of the season were to make playoffs, and because of certain problems, the team was unable to get there. Although their main goal was not reached, the team played with pride and potential. Along with the returning players as well as other additions, the in- coming freshmen will strive next year to rebuild the team with new talent. We had a lot of losses, due to injuries of key players, along with not being able to hold on to the lead. We still had a lot of fun, Captain Barton Leonard stated at the close of the season.
