Gao Volleyballers Make First State Appearance! This year was a very memorable one for the Corona- do volleyball team, The girls ended their season with a 14-3 record. They played and won together as a team, and beat both Wasson and Widefield who were co- league champions. Coming up from fourth in the league to second, the Cougars then went to district play-offs. Here many fans watched the Coronado vol- leyball team become District Champion and State Qualifier by beating Pueblo County. At state, the team went against its toughest competition, Arvada West. Here the team lost 7-15, 10-15, then in consolation competition, Adams City gave the team their second lose 9-15, 9-15. This was the team's first year to go to State, and they were bursting with talent and experience. Accord- ing to Coach Joan Devine, The team came through the back door, as the Cinderella team, and represented the league and district at the State Tournamentf' The team captain and Most Valuable Player was senior Suzie Gearhart.
