THEME DED.lCATION
Go West, young man! Horace Greeley once advised - and go west we did, on Mr.,Wood s
suggestion to the Executive Board when it was choosing the theme for this year's annual. Then
all hands pitched in, picking up cowboy lingo and atmosphere to use in the book . i s'Sorry so
mmy good ideas got crowded out, when such a lot ofvyou worked hard to help!
Because so many did have a hand, we of the staff have decided to dedicate this LA CORONA
OF 1951 to those who helped make it possible.
Thanks, pardners! 2-

STAR PALWER5
Places that can't depend on ir star-packers to maintain law and order sometimes have to re-
sort to nectie parties. Not s ! We have a right complete set up, from board of directors and
head superintendent down to wranglers and fence-riders. Mr. Kibby heads it all. Miss Raney, be-
loved general manager, has a new deputy foreman this season in Mr. Wood. Eddie Ortega speaks
forthe launkhouse gang. -
' The faculty added several newcomers to its string, this year. As well as breaking in the yearlirig
colts, they rodeherd on us generally, held their own in athletic bouts, and gave the whole country-
side a roaring good time with their original musical comedy HEAVY ON THE FLOORBOARD.
Still have to keep a look-out for them pesky Reds, so the Executive Board set up disaster de-
fense crews, hopin' all the time that their work would be wasted. . .The BROADCAST helped the
grapevine pass the word along - but LA CORONA always gets thekig word.

Doris Baker Dennis Betherum La Donna Gomer
Val edi ctori an Toastmaster Sf-'IIUfUf0I'5 an
imirra
With this year's herd off to market and the youn-uns out to pasture
for the summer, the few hands left to run the home ranch have time
to reminisce a bit:
Never thought l'd see a bunch of cowhands all lathered up over a sheepskin or two, but they were.
Them words of Doris 'n' LaDonna's sounded plum' wise, too. . .Hawaii sure knows how to treat
cowboys, specially with Dennis as caller. . .Made us some cash on them plays' we acted out, but
shore feel funny in fancy duds. . .Writin'est fellers on the range wuz Bill Baker and Ida Vorse, the
Legion ladies said - but Doris did right well last year, agin' hard lilcker. . .Paull made apurty
bride, 't the program we giv'. Minded me o'that Turnabout one we did last spring - less Iyin'
than year before that.
But now these events are only memories to treasure, to think about
in the days and nights ahead, when they once more ride the range.
