Coach Bill Bloom Beginning their most unbelievable year by smashing all contenders in the prestigious 32 team Covina Tournament, and then grabbing the Newport Tourna ment, the fantastic Sea Kings went on to dominate all Irvine League play. john Yule, our 6'7 center, brought home honors by being named the most valuable player in the Covina Tournament. The rest of the season followed suit with Corona tromping our league opponents with 22 straight wins to clinch the Irvine League title for the first time in Cdlvl history. The fantastic Sea Kings led by captain Phil jordan, jim Kindelon's red hot outside shooting and towering john Yule's rebounding compiled a 26-2 record in closing out the year as 2nd in Orange County and a rating of fourth going into CIF play. 55 J' 4 M.. its li Q 1 K I alms ,N , ' 7 , . .M ' , 1 1 Corona's spirit and enthusiasm could not have been greater as the Sea Kings entered the first round of CIF competition play. The Sea Kings first opponent was Long Beach Poly. With Corona's gym filled, the Tarbabies were stopped quickly and decisively Qfor the second time this seasonj. Corona played its best half of the season with a halftime score of 36-17. Both john Yule and Steve Leech aided the team effort by duncking 25 points a piece. With a fresh victory to guide them the team traveled to Glendora High School. There Corona played Arcadia or rather route Arcadia. With Iohn Yule hitting 23 points, Phil jordan 15, and jim Kindelon 12, the Sea Kings rolled to a 57-45 win over the Apaches. A capacity crowd of 3, 208 screaming fans set the stage for the 3rd CIF game against Marina at Cal State Fullerton. CdM fans met a duldruin during the third quarter as they saw their classy team committing turnovers and fouls. With 2 minutes left and 8 points behind the team gave an all out 11th hour effort which sent the stands wild. john Yule tied the score up with 39 seconds left to play, thereby sending the game into overtime. Within the gym it was bedlam. Fans screaming, crying, shouting, yelling as the score went from 41-40 to 43-42. In the end it was a free throw which placed the Vikings out ahead by one basket. We owe a debt of gratitude to our team and coach. It has been through their hard work and dedication, that the victories of the past season have been derived.
