But not for long did we remain timid. Six weeks saw us the bane of the teachers, the pests of the school. Fortun- ately, some absorbed a little civics, some science, and less English. By the close of the year we were well on our way to the development of the reputation for which we since have been noted. We returned as sophomores to continue the process of education. Strange that we should be greeted by four new teachers, and only after one year! A few faces were also missing among our ranks. At last we obtained the heights of juniors, full of hope, courage, and the ambition to 'carry on'. We were now fully adapted to the ways and manners of the high school life and looked down upon our underclassmen smugly and with an amusing smile. The greatest events were the class play and the prom--oh my--both successes. Finally, we became sophisticated seniors and-were greeted again by three new teachers. Of course we wondered again why the old ones had left--we received no answers to our questions, but we guessed. 0ur number had decreased from forty-eight to twenty-three, but though small in num- bers, we remained firm of purpose. We labored through the rounds of four classes a day--a few parties plays, and publications, and so on 'till spring, beautiful spring, when the young peoples' fancy turns to---graduation. Ah me--such is high school life--from tiny insignificant freshies to strong, fearless men and women ready to take our places in the world. Ruth Alcott 'Quiet ways bespeak a modest mind.'
