RON PRICE, Buslness Manage ORE ORD This is not a history. It is an annual. The Co-Lin Trillium Staff and Sponsors have attempted to present our school with its campus life as it really is and preserve it forever for you on these pages. If We have embodied in tangible form something of our campus and the spirit which is Co-Linis, our aim has been accomplished and We will consider this volume a success. CONTE TS A C A D E M I C ORGANIZATIONS FEATURES ATHLETICS ADVERTISEMENTS EDICATIO To express simply but sincerely our hearts deepest devotion, and to render a high tribute where such tribute is due, we, the Sophomores of 1939, are privileged to dedicate our volume of the Co-Lin Trillium to one who has contributed so much to the building of our college and our characters, our Dean of Women and our friend, Miss Lula Stevens. ALMA MATER Hail Copiah-Lincoln! Sons and Daughters true, Pledge thee our love, We'1l sing thy praise anew. Faithfully and loyally we'll ever honor thee. We'll push thy colors on to Victory! Outstanding in the group who have contributed to the building of our school have been the members of the Board of Trustees and the Boards of Supervisors of the counties which cooperate in the support of our High School and Junior College. Every movement for progress and growth must have one central leader. This leader. in the building of Copiah-Lincoln for several years. has been our president, J. M. Ewing. Under his direction our school has become a member of the American Association of Junior Colleges. the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. and a leader in all Junior College activities. We, the members of the Sophomore Class, who have sponsored this issue of the Co-Lin Trillium, shall endeavor to continue to build our school in order that those who have given us this opportunity to grow, may give this same opportunity to others. ATHLETICS 71 R COACI-IE No school in Mississippi can boast of a more versatile or competent coaching staff than We possess here at Copiah-Lincoln. Head Coach Hook Stone is master of all the attributes necessary for a capable mentor and with Coaches Goodwin, Funchess, and Thompson comprise a corps of leaders of which any school might well be proud. These four have placed athletics at Copiah-Lincoln on the high level that they have attained today and have been a major factor in the physical and spnitual development of our students Coach Stone will be sorely missed in coming years but the spirit he leaves with us should help much in the p1 omotion of sports in ou1 school COACHING STAFF JOHN M GOODWIN HOOK STONE TROY FUNCHESS FRED THOMPSON 72 7 V at-M C a . lm r I- y, ,, .L , a x ,M s 'v' .S W A - F f l 1 l ATHLETICS Athletics have always held an eminent position among the major activities at Copiah-Lincoln, and have reached greater heights this year than have been experienced before. Another merciless football team that held little respect for any opponent closed the season with the title, Champions -- 1938. This marked the eighth time in eleven years that Coach Stone's Wolves have left the gridiron undefeated in conference competition and in pos- session of the trophy. The basketball coaches repeated with good teams again, the boys being beaten in the tournament by a slightly superior Goodman team, and the girls reaching the finals where they were defeated after a great fight by Summit. The outlook for the other major sports is most promis- ing and Copiah-Lincoln will soon have passed another milestone on the road to greater athletic achievement. 73 . v, , ..-- ' , , ' V- +1 A M B Y . f V V V, , C A pr tigzzgffw' ' -vw, V A f . ,440 Q' 571' T 5?'4w g-'f J ,f, Av is fry fa 55 5244 ' ff 4221.2 Q ',VW L' f. Smith, the team's spark plug for the earlier games, transferred soon after the season began, leaving a small but fiery group to cairy on. The season was a see-saw affair from this point with some thrilling' games being lost by one or two goals. Tournament time found the boys with a record that showed eight wins against fourteen defeats, true evidence of a disheartening season. GIRLS Under the supervision of Mr. Ewing, Coach Thompson and Miss Davis, the Wfolverines again were strong contenders in the Junior College basketball race. Handicapped by the loss of three regulars from the eliampionship combination of 1938, these flaring girls fought through all their competition ending the season by winning twelve of the scheduled twenty-two games with one enfling in a tie. Pure grit and courage carried these cagers through strong Raymond and llec-atur squads at the Tournament, After covering themselves with glory by their scrap and fire, they were beaten in the finals by a larger Summit group. The King was a Little Lowe and the Knight was a Guest from the West in a White Ford Carr. He came through a Green Field with a Peacock in it, by a Byrd in a Berry Bush, a Young Grove, and through Dale and Meadows. He made the Wright Guess about the Meadows being full of Pitts and Wells but did not Chance a Storm. The King was Rich with Nichols, Furr, a Stone Hall, a Case of Pepper and Moore than a Shipp but did not have the Price of a Broom. He was Luckey to have a Barber, Baker, and Carpenter to play Ball with for Weeks. We ex ,. , .f ig.. E : 6 fy..-4 .. - 'Wk as A . 4, f-My K mf' fi .1 'Z' 4.593 ,.
