BLA. 7 7 rillio DEDICATED TO MR JIMMY A generous spirit, an understanding heart, a manly man, in appreciation of his deep interest in and loyal de- votion to a greater Copiah-Lincoln, his personal charm and character, We, the Sophomore Class of 1937, re- spectfully dedicate this sixth volume of The Co-Lin Trillium. The Co Lan IZCNQEWCDQD Through the medium of this volume of The C0-Liu TriZl'i11m We express to our fellow Alumni a joyous greeting and to our fellow students a fond farewell. XVe have attempted in its pages to depict faithfully and vividly student life at Copiah- Lincoln in the year of 1937. We hope that we have invested the buildings you have roamed through with so much life that they will never be just hrick and mortar to you, but will he instead a symbol of the culture a11d the refinement you have learned within their Walls. We cherish the idea that we have so pictured your friends whom you have made here that they will, when you open this book, smile, and remind you that these years spent in pursuit of an education have been happy. We dream that in the years to come these pages will he the medium of showing you how you looked and what you did in your youth. We treasure the many happy hours We have spent in searching for ideas which would recreate the realities and illusions of your by-gone school days because we fancy when your hair has turned to silver and your youth is only a memory that this volume will be very precious to you. Under the superb coaching of Hook Stone, the Wolves have won the championship six straight years and have been strong contenders for the title the other three years. The first game of the 1936-37 season resulted in a heart breaking defeat for the Co-Lin Wolves at the hands of the Millsaps Reserves, a non-conference team. With the closing seconds of play near at hand, t'o'Li11 attempted a field goal which failed when the ball hit the cross-bar and bounded back instead of over. This left the XVolves with a 15f14 defeat. The sting of this defeat was soon forgotten when the boys started their conference schedule and defeated Scooba in a 13-W6 victory. The game was more decisively Co-Lin's than the score indicated. In the 11ext game the Wolves piobably exhibited the best playing of the year when they defeated Decatur 10-O in a bitterly fought game on the Hazlehurst field. Oo-Lin thrilled the grandstands by scoring all her points in the closing minutes of play. Ellisville next fell victim to the vicious attack of the Wolves. After playing three closely contested quarters, Co-Lin ran wild to score twenty points in the last quarter. Ellisville was defeated by a score of 26-6. At this stage of the season the team was growing stronger and more confident. While the taste of the Ellisville victory was still fresh. the boys journeyed to Poplar- ville to play their first night game. It was an interesting game filled with numerous tough breaks. The final score a TAT tie chastened the wild, fighting spirit ofthe Co-Lin squad. The Wolves then went to Monroe, Louisiana, where they eked out another 'T-7 tie in a non-conference game with the strong L. S. U. Junior College. After these two tie games the XVolf Pack fought valiantly for a victory at Moor- head and won it by a score of 1841, scoring two touchdowns. an extra point, one field goal. and a safety. Nothing could have served better as an appetizer for a great victory on Home Coming Day than the decisive Moorhead victory. But Goodman, the strongest rival Co-Lin has in football. came primed for victory, too. The clash was terrific and thrilling. Co-Lin came out on the short end of a 213-6 score, but the game was much harder fought than the score indicated. Later, for playing an ineligible man, Goodman was forced to relinquish her laurels won that bright November day before hundreds of loyal Co-Lin Alumni. The Wolves went the next week to Mc-Comb, where a strong Summit team took them by surprise and tied them, GA6. The day before Thanksgiving the fighting blue and 'grey Wolves brought to a close a hard fought season by losing to a fast and alert Raymond t.ea1n, which had been pointing to beat them all the year. The final score was 12-6. A season, not brilliant but satisfactory, had closed. The team, though tied and defeated several times, probably represented the best coaching ever done at Copiah- Lincoln, considering the inexperience of most of the players and the heaviness of the schedule.
