1. Senior Class History One bright day in September, the year of 1939. A group of eager boys and girls began their first school year at Coopertown. We had as our teacher that year Miss Ruth Givens, who is now Mrs. Thomas Chambless. One of the best re- membered things of that year was, we were made to go to sleep, and since then the teachers have found it hard to keep us awake. We thought we were progressing right along as we had reached the second grade. Our teacher that year was Mrs. Copley James, who seemed to be very un- lucky, since she had to,put up with us spain in later years. we felt like we really were grown up the next year, we had been mov- ed upstairs to Mrs. Ruth Reeves' room. It was in this grade thd:,webegan our trip around the world, through the study of Geography. Ray Dean Rawls was the first new addition to our class. Through very much hard work we finally reached the fourth grade. We had lots of fun that year with Miss Doris Faires as our teacher. It was a pleasure to us-at least we thought it was-to tease Miss Faire! about her boy friend, who came to see her and later became her husband. Our fifth grade was filled with learning under the guidance of Mrs. Jesse Lipscomb. we were joined that year by Aubrey Browning, who hailed from Sandy Springs. we had two tea hers our sixth year, Mrs. Bennett Elliott the first of the year, and Mrs. Copley James the last. It was in the sixth that we began to realize that school was not only a place for fun, but studying as well. while in the seventh we were joined by Shirley Biggers, from,Pinnacle Train- ing School, and Louise Rice, from Alex Green School. My! We must have been important, because Mrs. James ond Mr. John L. Head both taught us that year. During this year many improvements were made on the building which we were all very proud of. That year, manv additions were made to our classy Dimple walker, Louise Road, Jean Ellis, Hughes ellis and Davis Inman from Gauss and also SueTeasley Marjorie June hllis and Jesse wayne Head from Sandy Springs. Last but not least came Donald McMahan from Crossvllle, Tenn. It was Mrs. W. B. Chilton who steered us through the eighth grade and to graduation. we were very fort- unate to be the last to have and elementary graduation. Ray Dean Rawls was Valedictorian, and Ray Elliott was Salutatorlan. well at long last we were Green Freshmen, trying to adjust ourselves tohigh school life. Added to our class that year was Martha Nell Jones and Dorothy Boyte from Sharon, and Robert Stiles from the Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville. Mrs. williams, gur Civics teacher, sponsored a trip to the School for the Blind and to the Tennessee State Penitentiary. Betty Ruth Murphy from Cedar Hill and Joe Bridges from Springfield enlarged our sophomore class. we were probably getting ready for our Junior and Senior years since we dldn't do very much, but at last we had one party that year at The home of Shirley B1 vers, sponsored by Miss Martha Ann Morris, now Mrs. Dorris Head. It was during our Junior year than Ann williams from Ashland City and Clarence fscorchyl Hunter from Detroit joined us. This was a very eventful year for us. It was great fun putting on our play, 'Ms Simpkins of Simpkins - vlllen, with Shirley Biggers as Ma Simpkins. with very much hard work selling refreshments at ball games axd the help of Mrs. Williams.our sponsor, we rais- ed enough money Lo carry the Seniors on a trip to Mammoth Cave, where we made a seven and wne half mile hike through the cave and had a picnic later ln the evening which we all enjoyed very much. We ha'e reached the climax of our school career: The Senior year. Most of our former classmates have left usg Marjorie Dowlon, Maaalene Nicholson, Ray Elliott and James Bennett the only remaining ones of that eager group that be- gan their first school years at Coopertown have welcomed all the new members that hare joined our class from time to time. This has brought the remaining number to twenty-four. All the Senior's hearts were filled with joy when we were about to begin our Christmas holidays because our Class rings came, which we now wear with pride. We thought so much of Mrs. williams our Junior year that we chose her to be our sponsor our Senior year. It has been with happy association that we have gone through these twelve years and we hope we can be friends forever. we wish to express our apprecia- tion for the efforts that our teachers and nrincipals have put forth to get us through these twelve years.

I, Jesse Wayne Head, will my ability to get Mrs. McCrary peeved to Herbert Jr. Parduo. I, Dorothy Boyte, will my curly hair to Betty Ruth Bugg. I, Betty Ruth Murphy, will my ability to stay in love with one boy to June Tuberville, who can not decide. I, Jean Ellis, will my ability to giggle to Betty Kate Murphy. I, Ann Williams, will my ability to get to a front seat in English class to Betty Ruth Lipscomb. I, Clarence Hunter, will my ability to get along with girls to Wiley B. Inman I, Davis Inman, will my ability to play football to Douglas Lipscomb. I, Ray Dean Rawls, will my brains to Noah Traughber. I, Ray Elliott, will my ability to argue to Bobby White. I, Robert Stiles, will my ability to cut common rafters to Mr. Browning. I, Sue Teasley, will my ability to get everyone tickled to Mies Mayo. I, Martha Nell Jones, will my ability to go with Springfield boys to Jackie JOl'l6Se I, Donald McMahan, will my ability to always be the last in class to Jimmie Elliott. I, Aubrey Browning, will leave. I, Mavalene Nicholson, will my ability to go with a musician to Nancy Drake. I, James Bennett, will my ability not to get caught in the basement to Douglas Watts.
