The roof had been repaired Conly 3 leaks this yearj so that cut down on the white buckets in the hall. The air conditioner worked best on cool days but was always broken when really needed. Enrollment reached an all time high this year with 1,022 regular CHS stu- dents plus 83 area students. St. Joseph totals 43 of this group, taking regular, advanced and career training courses. Others were from Perryville, May- flower, Vilonia, Bigelow and Green- brier. As far as styles went, the guys' hair stayed short but the girls did their own thing. It was frizzy, French braided, long, short, straight or curly. Heels went down, skirts went up, pants weren't so straight legged and purple was the big color. Some wore western outfits while others dressed up in their Izod and polo shirts. But some students stuck with their old faithful bluejeansf' Entertainment varied too. Rodeos were popular with more than the usual number of participants from our school. Crusin' wasn't for everyone this year. Early in the year several well known performers pre- sented concerts in the area: Foreigner, Styx, Hall 8: Oates, and Air Supply. Don Williams played at the State Fair and jerry Lee Lewis came to Pine Bluff. On the weekends when students got the hungries they could be found at Wendy's, Danver's, Stoby's, Ken's, Burger Shack, or Western Sizzlin'. After payday some even went to Iohn Barleycorn's, Coy's or Bennigan's in Little Rock. Space imovies of last year had been replaced by comedies such as Stripes, Arthur, Under the Rainbow, Private Benjamin and The Muppet Caper. Horror movies that were popular were Altered States, Blowout, and Wolfen. If the movie was too expensive, stu- dents could be found at home watch- ing cable T.V. which was new to Conway this year. A few changes happened around school such as the lunch prices went up to 51.00, we got our Coke machines back. fyealj A new mascot was on campus, and an excited pep club cheered the football team to their Associated Press rating of 4691 late in September. Dedication One person at this school will be unforgettable. As a teacher she has been outstanding and even more so as a person. She has laughed at us and with us. She has sympathized with us and she has encouraged us. One of her special contributions has been to set up a dating service for homecom- ing. You can stay on her good side only if your fingernails are the right length. It is with affection and appre- ciation that We dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Arletha Manley.
