The alumni of CHS move along the varied paths of life, remembering only the little things...the quick exchange of words as friends meet in the hall..the bus trips..the towering bonfires...football games when a tense score threatens a possible loss. You may be small in stature but have a big part in our hearts. We know that we speak on be- half of the entire student body Cespecially the Latin studentslj when we say there is no other teacher more dedicated to her profession, her students, and her school. You have made Latin interesting to 200 pound halfbacks, 6 foot basketball forwards, and starry-eyed girls dreaming of Caesar and Cleopatra. Sims Mrs. George R, Evatt Receptionist Bookkeeper I would like to express my appreciation to the Student Body for a very exciting and fine school year. We have had excellent lead- ership from our class and club officers. This, to me, reflects your desire and ambition to have an outstanding school at Conway High. You have a unique and wonderful school spirit. This is something very few schools have been able to accomplish. As we look forward to our new school plant and the many new changes in our curriculum, I trust you, too, are enthusiastic about the possibilities for Conway High School. I believe our new school will afford any student the opportunity he or she will need or desire. To our new students, I hope you have found your place of service in this fine Student Body and at the close of this school year you will be able to say, in reference to school spirit, athletics and academic achieve- ment, I, too, am a member of the fighting Wampus Cats. We wonder how Mr. Stuart can look so relaxed with all the work that goes with being principal! Mr. C. J. The Queen was crowned and the maids were presented to the Stu- dent Body during a morning assem- bly. The afternoon activities in- cluded a tea in the Home Economics cottage for the former lettermen. Queen Cathey was crowned again during the field ceremonies before the game with Benton. Despite the rain, the Wampus Cats defeated the Benton Panthers 13 to 0. McClellan High School Marching Band Contest. The tremendous success of our band is attributed to the capable direction of Mr. Russell Langston. This year the CHS band had 22 students who made the All-Region Band and 5 students who made the All-State Band. The highlight of the year was the CH S Band's invitation to play in the Cotton Bowl Parade in Dallas. To be considered for an invitation to participate, a band must be a first division winner in both playing and marching in state-sponsored events, must provide letters of rec - ommendation, films showing their marching skill, and tapes and recordings demonstrating their quality of musician- ship. The Conway High School Band was the only Arkansas band to participate in any of the Bowl Parades. The band also helps in building school spirit and playing at pep assem- blies and football games in and out of town. After marching season the band turns to concert music. We will never experience the daily problems that will exist here. Our footsteps will never be heard on the doorsteps, our voices will never echo in the halls. But yet . . . we feel that this building , and all that it will house, is a part of us. It was conceived when we were but lowly sophomores and it grew and developed with us. Each test that was taken, each brick that was laid . . . step by step to an ultimate goal, the finish. This is our heritage. Within the walls of this structure we leave a part of our lives to those who will travel the same road after we are gone. The importance of a year- book is not in the book itself, but in the importance you, the Student Body, attach to it. We would like to express our appreciation to one of the most school-spirited Student Bodies CHS will ever see. The goal often exceeds the actual attainment. We would like to thank the faculty for helping us inch closer toward our goal of presenting a yearbook worthy of CHS. Last, but not least, we ex- press appreciation to the adver- tisers who have played a big part in the production of this yearbook. The yearbook skit, The Best Commercial of the Year , owed much of its hilarity to cheerleaders Lanny Noggle, Dick Cisne, and Bruce Joyner. 1 .J John Ward, Paula Anthony, Judy Koon, Mike Stout, Jamie Prothro, Mrs. Dunaway, Linda Beene, and Dinah Ludwick attended the State Yearbook Convention at SCA this past summer. - Said to be the fairest of them all are raven- haired Owen Floyd and miniskirited Kenne Ketcheside. , L t - gf, V1,i .
