, ff 9 fed ll. NTIVERSER r CBasketball Season HE Douglas Bearcats won their first game of the season, when they de- feated Riverton by a score of 20 to 16, with Douglas leading throughout the game. The Riverton boys were by no means slow and the locals had to play a fast game to beat them. The next game was at Glenrock, where we were defeated by a score of 14 to 26. The Glenrock boys played a fast, smooth game and although the Bear- cats put up a stiff fight they were unable to carry oFf the long end of the score. VVe then met our old rival, Casper, and played them to a 20 to 21 score. The Casper boys seemed to be a good match for our Bearcats and a mighty fast game ensued. The teams took turns making baskets and when the final whistle blew Casper was one point ahead. Sunrise, last year's tournament winners, was the next team on our schedule. They had a good team again this year, but were unable to keep up with the Bearcats. The score was 21 to 17. Douglas evened their score with Glenrock when they defeated them here by a score of 41 to 18. The Bearcats held the opposing team scorless during the first quarter and outplayed them all during the game. On january 27 and 28 the Bearcats went on a trip to Riverton and Lander. The boys who rode in the Studebaker received quite a scare when they turned over going around a curve but regained their balance that evening when they defeated Lander, 13 to 10. Friday, on the way home, the Bearcats stopped long enough in Riverton to score another victory, 32 to 20. In this game, Douglas played some of the best basketball of the whole season. Lander then came down with a determination to win from the Bearcats but the boys played such a steady game, that it would have been a hard job for any team to win from them. The Final score was 32 to 14, in favor of Douglas. This day the Casper and Douglas warriors clashed again. Both teams were determined to win, but the steady team work of the Bearcats gave them the long end of the score which was 20 to 17. The Douglas Bearcats won easily from Guernsey in this game. All the subs were given a chance in the third quarter and the game ended 21 to 14 in the favor of Douglas. On March fourth. the Bearcats journeyed down to Cheyenne to play a return game. They were defeated 15 to 25. ln the former game with Chey- enne on January 29, the Bearcats carried off the long end of a 26 to 25 score. ln the last few minutes the game was brought to a tie. Then Roush was given one shot on holding which he made good and spelled the one point difference in score. The last game of the season was with Lusk in which our Bearcats defeated them by a score of 30 to 7.

The next galne, Douglas vs. Buffalo, brought the crowd to their feet on the first play 2.1111 kept them there during the entire galne. The teams seellled to be evenly matched and it was a case of fight, hght, fight, from start to flnish. A couple of shots in the last few minutes put Douglas ahead and the game ended 13 to 12 with Douglas still on top. Glenrock and Hillsdale then played and although the score was somewhat 0110-Sided, the gallle was by no means dull. Glenrock got the lead from the first and kept it during the elltire game which ellded, Glenrock 30, Hillsdale 15. The crowd was given another galne well worth their nloney when Midwest and Lusk WCl1t the rounds. Although Midwest was much larger alld heavier than the Lusk team, it seems they couldn't keep track of the fast Lusk forwards alld so the unexpected happened. Lusk 7, Midwest 6. VVell, this was allother one of those last minutes games when some Hashes of brilliant tealn work again saved the day for Douglas High, The score was, Douglas 15, Glenrock, 14. Saturday afternoon the nerves of the Douglas rooters were again wrecked. A 19 to 18 win over Wheatland was the cause, wreck, alld result, altogether. Long accurate shots in the last few minutes of play again spelled the one poillt difference in score. The two final games of the tournamellt were played Saturday evening. The gyln was packed to its fullest capacity alld CVC11 the 017811 spaces under the baskets were filled. The flrst gallle was played between Buffalo alld Glenrock for third place, both ICHIIIS having lost one ganle. They were both determined to win and a hard, fast game was the result. The hnal score was 22 to 15 in favor of Buffalo. And now COIIICS the big game, Douglas vs. Casper for flrst place. Casper took the lead 111 the first few nlillutes by bagging three short goals. The rest 'of the galne was an exchange of basket for basket, Casper holding the lead gained in the first few minutes. The game ellded 22 to 14, giving Casper first place, and Douglas secolld.
