CON NIE Gets a Facelift Crew's berthing spaces were refurbished completely and the air conditioning system was improved with additional installation of more air conditioning units. With the majority of overhaul work done, CONSTELLATION's crew and their families sailed for San Diego, homeport for CONNIE and her crew. After a brief rest in San Diego, CONSTELLATION again went to sea to prepare the crew for Refresher Training exercises in May of 1971.

All 'Go' For Cruise After an extensive period stateside, each attack aircraft carrier must undergo three tests to evaluate the battle readiness of the crew and the ship itself. CONSTELLATION underwent Refresher Training, the first of these tests, in May 1971. Long and hard hours were the order of the day, as the crew was trained for firefighting and damage control. As a result of the crew's high efficiency and morale, CONNlE's damage control scores were the highest ever made by a CVA during Refresher Training. In August, one month before deployment, the Operational Readiness Inspection was held. Once again CON NIE's crew did an outstanding job and passed the test with flying colors. After arrival in Pearl Harbor, CONNIE and her crew passed the third and final test, Operational Readiness Evaluation. , ' ,512 3571757 . 4,7 rrrvvi R. ns.
