CVERHAUL Perhaps Connie's WestPac cruise began in Bremerton, Wash., where eight months and S19 million dollars made her the most modern warship afloat. Between April and' December 1965, she was equipped with several new computer- ized systems, including the Sl30,000 Ship's Inertial Navigation System CSINSJ an Sl,- 800,000 Integrated Operational Intelligence System CIOISD, and a S790,000 Naval Tac- tical Data System KNTDSJ. For Connie men and their families, it was also a vacation away from the sea. There were weekends in Seattle, in the Olympic Mountains and Mt. Rainer and numerous fishing trips. Crewmen had a lot of fun in the North- west, but they never lost sight of the fact that their stay in Bremerton was to build a better ship for the task ahead. This was the objective and that was the outcome. Perhaps the highlight of the yard period was the Constellation Anniversary Ball. Les Brown provided music and the Bever- ly Hillbillies' Donna Douglas was guest star. w 1 S1 f 4,1
