CAPTA N'S MESSAGE The l966 Western Pacific deployment marks a high spot for CONSTELLATION in naval annals. Following in the tradition of our illustrious predecessor, the frigate CONSTELLATION which dates back to 1797, our ship has performed magnificently and with distinction in the Vietnam War. The courage and heroism of the pilots has been truly exceptional, in returning daily to attack targets in the most heavily defended area in the world, North Vietnam. Their deeds were made possible by the valiant efforts of the support crews who loaded bombs, repaired airplanes, pro- pelled the ship and performed the myriad of other duties necessary to the functioning of our great ship. It has been a source of tremendous per- sonal satisfaction to me to participate with 5,000 shipmates who were giving a maxi- mum effort in support of our country and its policies. The superb performance of the entire ship during these difficult months is my reward. To each of you I say in appre- ciation, Wel1 done. The Constellation- Carrier Air Wing Fifteen team in 1966 have indeed fulfilled and even added new lustre to our ship's motto: Spirit of the Old, Pride W. D. I-IOUSER Captain, U.S. Navy Commanding Officer of the New.
