Richardson became CTF 77 August 12 while Con- stellation operated in the Gulf of Tonkin. Commissioned in Iune 1936, he served on the battleship Tennessee and the destroyer Downes before beginning flight training in 1939. After receiving his wings in 1940, he was assigned to Fighter Squadron Five aboard York- town, Wasp and Saratoga and saw World War Il action in both the At- lantic and Pacific theaters. He is cred- ited with shooting down four enemy aircraft. After the war, he attended the Royal Navy Staff College in London, and the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. Admiral Richardson has commanded Air Group l3 aboard Princeton, served on the staff of the loint Chiefs of Staff, as Executive Officer of the carrier Ba- doeng Strait, on the Staff of Com- mander Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, with the Chief of Naval Opera- tions twice, on the Staff of Commander Striking and Support Force, Southern Europe, and as- Commanding Officer Cimarron and Hornet. As a Rear Admiral he has served as Commander Fleet Air, Norfolk, Com- mander Naval Air Bases, Fourth and Fifth Naval District and ComCarDiv- Seven aboard USS Oriskany. Rear Admiral Richardson is married and has six children.

Bear Admiral Iames R. Beedy, Com- mander Carrier Striking Force, Seventh Fleet shifted his flag to Constellation from USS Kitty Hawk KCVA-635 on 1 Iune 1966 at Yokosuka, Iapan. Admiral Beedy, born 10 lune 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from the Naval Academy in 1933. As a mid- shipman, he played varsity football, and captainedtthe 1932 Academy team. A Naval Aviator, Admiral Beedy served aboard the cruiser USS North- hampton, in Bombing Squadron Six aboard USS Enterprise and in Patrol Squadron Two in the Canal Zone, be- fore assuming command in 1943 of Pa- trol Bombing Squadron 110 based in England. For his outstanding operational ef- fectiveness and combat record at that command, Admiral Beedy received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal and the British Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, Admiral Beedy par- ticipated in the atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll. His first flag command came in Aug- ust 1962 when he assumed command of Carrier Division Twenty. In Novem- ber 1962, he became Commander, U.S. Naval Support Force Antarctica and later, U.S. Antarctic Projects Officer. Admiral Beedy became Command- er Carrier Division Five on 25 Iune 1965 and less than a month later also became Commander Task Force Sev- enty-Seven. Admiral Beedy is married and has five children.

-'sd Captain William D. Houser, born in At- lanta, Ga., in 1921, entered the Naval Academy in Iune 1938. After graduation in December 1941, he reported aboard the cruiser Nashville, flagship for General MacArthur for his return to the Philippines. He became a Naval Aviator in March 1946, and has served with Fighter squad- rons on the East coast, commanded Fighter Squadron 44 in Korea, operating from Lake Champlain and Boxer. He served with Air Development Three CVX-35, which performed fleet evaluation of new naval jet fighters, commanded the Pacific Fleet Crusader replacement squadron at Mof- fett Field, Calif., and commanded the arn- munition ship Mauna Lea. Captain Houser has also served in the offices of the Chief of Naval Operations, and Ioint Chiefs of Staff and has attended the Naval War College, Newport, R. 1. X Before assuming command of Constella- tion on Ianuary 29, Captain Houser was assigned to the office of the Secretary of Defense as Chief of the Military Personnel Section. Captain Houser wears the Bronze Star with Combat V, the Air Medal with Gold Star, and the Commendation Medal with a Combat V and a Gold Star, plus theater ribbons for both World War II and Korean conflict. A He is married and has three children.
