QVLLOIA 6L:S:5 As students we who wull be known to pos teruty as the Class of T945 of Connellsvulle Hugh School have much to be proud of Even wuth the dark shadow of war bending low above us we have carried ourselves and our school to a hugh point of dustunctuon Ours us o proud and noble begunnung for to graduate from hugh school us only a begunnung un the race for fame durung our short stay on earth We have left a deep and lasting umprunt un the pages of our school s history We have begun well We will carry on un the same manner Before goung unto a bruef summary of the events takung place un our last year at C H S we must pause to here pay trubute to those of us who have left school pruor to graduatuon n order to serve their country Those boys who have left our class for such purpose w ll we know merut every partucle of honor bestowed boys and gurls who follow them Our unutual actuon as a group was un elect ung our unduvudual homeroom officers to represent us un Student and Senuor Counculs and to pre sude at homeroom meetungs The Senuor Council rapudly acknowledged our honorung them by sponsorung the Harvest Hop durung the Hallo we en season In mud December we voted for our class officers After the Chrustmas holudays un early January the results of the electuon were announced at the Presudents Ball They were Thomas Byrne Presudent Jack Barthels Vuce Presudent Mary Lou Long Secretary and Phulup Parus Treasurer The beautuful ceremony of Color Day was observed on Aprul 5 Our colors orchud and yellow standung for truth honor wusdom and glory were accompanued by the yellow rose as class flower In the nobuluty of the yellow rose we found the desure for achuevement so neces sary to us Our presudent Tom Byrne gave the openung address followung the readung of the Buble by Phul Parus Jack Barthels explauned the meaning of our class colors whule Mary Lou Long dud the same wuth the flower Other features of the program uncluded vocal selectuons by Betty Lou McCoy and Harold Shearer a puano solo by Ray Grulfiths a readung by Norma Jean Baxter and a trumpet solo by Jackue Mutchell A pleas ant surpruse came to us all when Bette Moser was called up to the stage to receuve an award from the Daughters of the Amerucan Revolutuon Phulup Freeman Chapter for her outstandung ser vuce to her school and communuty Flower gurls rune Ruthanne Smaul and Mary Robbuns We were proud when at last June 'I came around and not a luttle nervous The full weught of the twelve years behund us was apparent at last The puece of paper we were about to re ceuve was small but to us ut represented the effort whuch lay un the dead pages of the past lt was a symbol of a past filled wuth achueve ment In cap and gown as we walked slowly to our seats we were filled wuth the uoy of accom plushment We knew that whatever the future held un store for us we would face ut wuth heads held hugh filled wuth hope and confidence Thus our class wuth a noble begunnung and a brught future has taken uts place un the passage of tume from 0225 Coker left to Right Thomas Byrne, Jerk 50' thels Mary Lou Long, and Phulup Parus I2 X .
