It is with deep regret and sincere sorrow that we look back upon our four long years of high school, deep regret because they are over, and sorrow because we must leave behind many of our friends. It seems only yesterday that three hundred tottering Freshmen entered good old Connells- ville High School with the intent purpose of conquering everybody and everything. What a humiliation we must have experienced to find that we were no longer the '6tops as we had been in the grade schools, how inferior we must have felt to be caught by an alert teacher ascending the descending stairs, how puzzled we must have been trying to find our rooms, perhaps being laughed out of a senior room into which- we had accidently walked! And yet it was only a few weeks before our affairs began to function smoothly and we became a part of our classes, clubs, and other activities in the high school. Not content to remain in the background for long, we produced our Freshman class play, Dollars to Doughnuts, which drew applause even from the upperclassmen. As Sophomores, we demonstrated our superiority by turning out a championship Junior Varsity football team composed mostly of members of our own class. ln basketball, we went even farther by having several members of our class holding down positions on the var- sity. Comedy again prevailed in our class play, The Mummy and the Mumpsw, starring James McCuinness and bringing several other talented actors into the limelight. Several of the boys displayed their versatility in portraying femin- ine roles. Our newly-organized band was certainly no exception lo our record for school spirit, for more instruments than our share were assigned to Sophomores. Semen 61044 One year passed and we were Juniors. Each year, we had to add more and more to our responsibilities and academic achievements. Our class play was a romance, with Lycll Buttermorc playing the romantic lead. Many were the feminine hearts that fluttered that evening. Members of our class soon began to as- sume lhc leading positions that they would have the next year. Nine members, five girls and four boys, were admitted to the National Honor Society, while several others had already earned the right to debate with the regular var- sities of other schools. Thomas Floto won the extemporaneous speaking contest and several other members of our class placed second and third in the various forensic events. The coming of our Senior year reminded us that we had but one year to remain in Con- nellsville High School. Our debalers continued to uphold their splendid recordg our football team again displayed that fighting spirit and good sportsmanship so characteristic of Con- nellsville teams, and our basketball team again finished in the first division, establishing a record of having played a tie game with our deadly rivals, Scottdale. Seven more Seniors were welcomed into the National Honor Society. Election of class officers served notice on us that our days in Connellsville High School were indeed numbered. On February 18, our first Senior activity, Color Day, was observed. How handsome we must have looked and how proud we felt as we walked up to receive our coronation blue and silver colors and our class flower, the white rose! As this goes to press, we are looking for- ward to our last Senior days with regret, for joyful though they are, they mean that our school life has come to a close.
