In the early 1900's, lerome built its first school house. This was the beginning of Jerome education. As we, the members of the class of 1975, see twelve years of schooling pass quickly in front of us, we think of many memories, and why we are glad to live in Conemaugh Township. We see our families, friends, and teachers, but most of all our parents, to whom we dedicate our yearbook as a token of appreciation. In dedicating this to our parents, we decided to add a little to show how much we do care aboutthem. This year we decided to do something different with our yearbook. We have tried to make it more personal and interesting to people of all ages. We want to bring back memories to our parents and grandparents while making new ones for ourselves. As one looks through our book, many changes can be noticed. One of these changes is the pictures we've added from former yearbooks and ones we got from friends. We want to extend our thanks to all who have helped us. These pictures may remind you of your days here, and in doing this, we can help share our days with you. 2 Opening l The booming city of Jerome wasn't satisfied with their first ' school house, so they built a second one which was bigger and better. 4 picture out of the 1920's? Exactly! This picture, taken in 1920, is a of students from Conemaugh Township. 'he Queen City of the Bituminous itself! Jerome started out as a nining town in 1904, and continued to grow to its present status. he Big Band Era in Jerome? Yes, even then, Ierome, Pennsylvania, ad its own Citizen's Band! I like Conemaugh Township because .... .... of Community Spirit. People are friendly and helpful. Roger Knepper .... it is made up of a wide variety of very different people, yet we all have a lot in common and like a lot of the same things. Unknown .... of the great sports teams and the friendly people. Diane Borosky Conemaugh, a small Indian village, was located on the present site of lohnstown. The word itself is said to mean long fishing place. In 1801 the February Sessions created Conemaugh Township. At that time the township was very large, including much of Northern Somerset County and the southern part of Cambria County. There were ninety taxables living in the township when it was formed in 1810. There were 53 cabins and 15 houses with about 300 inhabitants. joseph johns, the founder of johns- town, is buried in the family plot on a farm near Davidsville. Among the early settlers are found the names of Buck, Blough, Hershberger, Croyle, Miller, and Thomas. They were mostly of German origin. Included were Lutherans, Evangelicals, United Brethren, and the plain people-German Baptist Brethren tDunkardsJ, Mennonites, and Amish. Pennsylvania Dutch was the community dialect. Around 1800 Isaac Kaufman owned 1600 acres of land around Davidsville. His estate was valued at a quarter million dollars. .... it's like one big happy family. Helen Constable .... it's not crowded, the scenery is always pretty and the people are friendly. Ruth Hostetler . . . . of solitude. Nancy Custer .... of all the wonderful memories it left me with. Cindy Zwick Opening 3 wwf The reason I like living in Conemaugh Township is the High School. Right now my education is very important to me and CTAHS is helping me become the type of person I wish to be. l've become involved athletically as well as scholastically at CTAHS and this has added to my learn- ing. From my friends and the people of Conemaugh Township, l've been given many values I will always remember. Athletic events, parades, the wooded areas, new things to discover, always able to find something to do, and of course, the people are just a few of the reasons I enjoy living in Conemaugh Town- ship and attending CTAHS. Every leaf that falls, every word spoken will live on as a memory. As I leave the area upon graduating, I know I will return some day with many fond memories of how I had grown in this area. I know, when I do return, CT will still be the same friendly and beauti- ful township that I so fondly know now. I know if the people can't find a way, they'll make one. Cindy Sambor 4 Opening I like Conemaugh Township be- cause . . . . . . Some of the best memories I have started at CTAHS. I will never forget all the great people I met there and all the pride the kids from CT have. Lynn Harshberger .... After being away for 5 years at college, I'm very happy to be living in C.T. again. Carle lThomasJ Allen .... The people here are friendly. Karen Young FROM TOP TO BOTTOM: IU Could it be the Injun Engine 31? This train sits on an old abandoned railroad track in Hollsop- ple. 121 Even back then the students tried to brownie up teachers! l3I Does this remind you of the bomb threats? This old fire truck may have come to the rescue of students in 1935, but since then, the Hollsopple Fire Department has acquired newer and more efficient trucks. 4 I like Conemaugh Township because .... .... Some of my best memories are here. Larry Alwine .... Everyone is crazy or shall I say not wrapped too tight. Unknown .... The surroundings. jackie Lambert .... The friendly people and kids, and how easy it is to adjust to the neighborhood after mov- ing here. Rhoda Freed .... The congenial feeling that everyone has for everyone else throughoutthe Township. Tammie Kaufman .... Anomymous. laye Anne Hunter .... The close-knit community. Nancy Cottom . , mlbr5H'Fl4'l Sli X' '67 I .W. .... The people here-they are a lot nicer than I thought they'd be. I doubt if the students from the school I came from would be that friendly to a new student. lodi Fisher .... My grandparents. Cindy Matsko .... The fact that we're number one. julie Butchko .... It is an excellent area to grow up in because the pace is slow, there are still places of solitude where a person can communicate with nature, and most people have good hearts. Gale Shipley FROM TOP TO BOTTOM: Ill Our lnjun Engine pulled ahead and left the poor caboose behind! This is part of the train located in Hollsopple. C27 After leaving the bulls out for the summer of '43, Miss Ethel Berkey and Miss EJ. Will show a smile of relief. C35 A picturesque post- card? No, it is the covered bridge located on the Somerset Pike. Opening 5 ls this the border to nowhere? Border Dam is located, on the Stonycreek, near Carpenters Park. .... No matter where I go or what I do Conemaugh Township will always mean so many mem- ories to me-the memories each of us have after we leave the school, the good times we have had in it, and most of all the people which make C.T. what it is ludy Risch The 1950 Majorettes: Sandra Mont- gomery, loan Knapp, Mary Timko, Mary Kantz. gfffam IL p .... The friendly atmosphere and teachers who care. Karen Kalenak .... lt has a lot of nice, friendly people. Karen Colclough, Linda Yoder, Trina Harman, Terry Coughenour, Grizz, Dave Thompson, Connie Shetler. 6 Opening I like Conemaugh Township because .... .... I believe the people here are closer to each other and friendlier than people in other high schools. Anne Beatty .... Everybody can be an indi- vidual, and have their own opin- ions, but still be friends, and best of all, still work together to make C.T. the best! jamie Feathers .... The quality of Township's education is high, the quality of it's student life is high and I guess that's a major part of what it takes to make a high quality tomorrow. Bill Pebley .... I think it's an all around great school. We've got a great athletics department and good school spirit. I'm proud to be a member of the student body here atC.T. Ginny Miller .... It has an outstanding atmosphere for developing a stu- dent's personality and character that will be used in his future life. loAnn Heckler .... The students uphold the great traditions and pride in Conemaugh Township High School. Tomlordan .... The enthusiasm that the students bring forth in school activities. Greg Varner If you like old cars, here's one you will love. Do you think its owners could have been Bonnie and Clyde? The atmosphere of the area, the attitudes of the people, and the friendliness of all make Cone- maugh Township special for me. No matter what my future holds or where I may go, I will always remember the people I met at CT Here is a peaceful spot in the CTAHS area where many students throughout the years spent many serene moments and how even after graduation everyone from past years kept in touch and remained friends. I know of no other place l'd rather live. Kay Miller trying not only to hook the fish but also get hooked themselves. -1- .... ..,....f- 32: ' R14 . ,... ,, F . I like Conemaugh Township because .... .... it's so rustic. Mary Anne Golden .... of the faculty. I personally feel we have the best teachers in the area. Also, the growing of athletic programs and the new mini-courses and English elec- tives. Bob Cotchen .... of the three stooges-Mr. Hemphill, Mr. Michaels, Mr. Dun- can, and Mr. Williams. I also like the fact that here students are individuals, not merely num- bers or faces to teachers. Phil Parlock .... all of my very best friends. Cheryl Shustrick .... I think it's one of the better townships to live and raise a family in. There's a lot of community spirit, and I appreci- ate all the churches. Unknown .... the people of the area are really friendly. I think that this makes the township so great. Trina Harman .... of the great community togetherness. I sometimes feel sorry for those who have never had a chance to be a part of a community as close as ours. The people of Conemaugh Township are the greatest people any- where, they make Conemaugh Township what it is. Kathy Constable I like this year's senior class the best, it was almost as good as ours. The class of '73 can't be beat, but the class of '75 is really great. I think their senior year was just as fantastic as ours. It may not be the greatest harmony, but we try and we try hard. In this modern age we live in, not many students want to sing religious music. I think the choir can be very proud of its concerts and the Seniors can be very proud, for it is their last year. Many memories will be kept on our minds. Why, who could forget the swaying Christ- mas tree, singing the same verse 3 times at a concert or passing strange objects during a concert. CGNN Meet our fearless editors! xx 1 g l l N i .qt -73' 41 lACH This year, the CONNUMACH has taken on a new appearance with the hope that the students would like to see a change. With the help of our advisors, Miss Will and Miss Tighe, and our company representative, Mr. John Mitchell, we decided to bring our book alive with the township and its wonderful memories. What do you like about Conemaugh Township? and The greatest thing about CT is . . .! were the two more frequent questions asked by our yearbook staff. With responses from students, teachers, administration, alumni, and friends, we soon realized the true greatness of CT. Maybe that's why the class of 1975 devoted the many long hours to make this yearbook great. Our goal was to keep the CT tradition of greatness alive, and with everyone's help and with the hundreds of hours of work from the staff, the CONNUMACH has proven itself to be great Conce againl. Each staff organized days for picture taking, then came the arranging of the pictures on each page, the copy had to be written and typed, and last, everything was proofread over and over again. These things were done by the CONNUMACH staff, but there were also those people who volunteered from studies to help us, and the yearbook company who had to decipher all our scribbles and instructions. But if you'd ask anyone on the staff, they'd probably tell you it was worth it-just look how great the 1975 CONNUMACH isl Hey Vic! l'll trade you a Bobby Vinton picture for a Robert Redford picture, OK? As said, this year we planned to make our yearbook different. A more personal touch and the community were added to bring our book to life. When glancing back over the pages, all can find fond memories of ours and our parents. Even our grandparents are reliving moments they thought no longer existed. In doing this, we proved why Conemaugh Township is so special to both our parents and ourselves, and what is so good about living in Conemaugh Township. In closing, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who have helped us make this yearbook a great success: to Miss Will and Miss Tighe for all their effort and extra hours, especially Miss Will who put up with us and felt all our pain and agony as deadlines drew near, to Mr. john Mitchell who was more than just a yearbook company representative, to the staff who put in a lot of hard work, and to our parents who have helped us make it through twelve terrific years of school. -the Editor.
