. f ig it 'll ww An advertising copywriter once coined a won- derful phrase - the man with the grasshopper mind. He used it to describe men always hopping from one thing to another, such as the salesman who could never find a right line which he could sellp the office worker who couldn't concentrate on what he was doing, but allowed his mind to flit from one idle thought to the next, the student who couldn't settle down to getting passing grades on his examinations, even, perhaps, the housewife who never seemed to find enough time to do all her work. These are people who somehow never seem to get in the groove that leads to success and happi- ness. Instead, they go nervously from one thing to the next, always expecting by some magic to find an elusive success that never comes. Many of the best things in life are free, even the freedom of making a choice, and it is surprising how much can be done with how little if we make wise choices. Learning how to make a living is not a burden to be feared, but rather an adventure of life. This is one great objective of our elementary and high school education today. We still teach the three R's, quite contrary to what one reads sometimes, but this does not constitute an education. A successful school program must not only comprehend the aca- demic, but the moral and the social phases of living. G. W. STEPHENS Supervising Principal CLASS OF' 1952: In l952 the Communist World still counts on America and Americans going soft-and rotten. Some of our own thoughtless critics contend that high school graduates are nice young things who have learned how not to work or to be dope addicts. Since high school is our business, we can't ac- cept either view. We know that our graduates are making good in war and peace. They are succeed- ing in farming, teaching, law, business, industry, athletics, medicine, science, engineering - hard work. CTHS Alumni are taking their places in the com- munity. They have fine families. They are good Americans. We believe in them. As you join more than l4UU CTHS graduates, we suggest that you too find some niche where you can experience inner peace, a sense of citizenship in a great country, and faith in each day's dawn. Don't let youthful drive be bartered for rainbows of complete security. Rather step boldly into today's world-strong and confident. You have our best wishes always. TELFORD B. BLOUGH High School Principal
